Have a Strong feeling someone has an offer on the table as of today.
Lets look at this from a strictly business standpoint. I am going to use a 5 year contract for each coach. I will use Patricks numbers with the exception that I added to Grudens.
Gruden 6 mil + 5 mil for staff total 11 million
Gundy 4 mil + 3.5 mil for staff + 600K for buyout (divided buyout by 5 years) total 8.1
Strong 3 mil + 3 mil for staff = 500k buyout 6.5 million
Here is the question is Gruden and staff worth the difference? Would you pay Gruden 3 million more than Gundy? What about 4.5 million more than Strong?
Would Gruden make this difference up or exceed it with ticket sales, advertising (how much TV time. There is a marketing formula for this) , donations, clothing sales, etc.
What do you think?
Smokey X,Welcome and please make yourself at home! I tried to quote your post but the data base errors would allow me to.
Well...if Fisher is out as well as Stoops, Gundy, Strong...etc. It really looks like Gruden or Dooley 2.0! If it's Dooley 2.0 I think the Vol fan base will riot! Let's pray this is all smoke and mirrors for the hiring of Jon Gruden! As Smokey would say.....Jon MF'N Gruden is about to come to the sec and....well I don't remember the rest of his quote!
I believe thats the max of grudens contract anywhere between 10 mill and 11 mill. Also I think Strong would at least pay as much as we do now for a staff at 3.5 mill.
Either way I believe he is worth it. Next year doesn't look real promising for any coach. So the only one that has a chance to make money for the university is Gruden. I believe Gruden would recruit better than either and have the talent pile up quickly. I'm not saying Gundy or Strong couldn't win in the following years but I think it would be a slower build up.
The other thing is if you pay that kind of money for a coach that doesn't get the fan base fired up and then they flame out in 3 years we will be in a worse situation then than now. Gruden at least gets the fan base fired up immediately and makes the university money in the first couple years even if he does fail later(which I do not think would happen).
