The best damage control at the moment would be to either "allow" Currie to resign or straight fire his backside. And then put in a trusted man as interim AD that Vols fans know and respect. A man who will put Tennessee's interests ahead of his own.

Phil Fulmer.

And I dare anyone to give me this BS about how he's not fit to run an athletic department. We need someone the fans can trust and look up to and he's the only person outside of Pat Summit (God rest her soul) that loves Tennessee more than himself. When you're in a crisis mode, you want someone the fans can be comfortable with. He's your guy.

If you have an interim AD you might as well have an interim HC because nobody worth a damn is coming without knowing who his boss is going to be.

The sad part about all of this is all I really wanted was for The University to hire a quality head coach with a reputation that would shut the Sports Media around the country up, especially ESPN. All we got was an AD that showed he has no common sense, a booster that is facing more trouble than Vol football making the usual stupid decisions and all the while giving the Media more logs to throw on the burning mattress in the Trailor Park fire. Sad just really sad.

A lifelong friend who is an Ole Miss fan texted me about the sh*t show today. As bad as the Ole Miss situation is, I did not try to give him crap back, didn't feel justified.

Still hoping for Grudemas miracle.

Here's another thought while I'm still 3 pages behind. If fans wanted Gruden to come to Tennessee before learning of Haslam's back stab with Schiano, why would the back stab make people go out on getting Gruden? Shouldn't we demand Gruden even louder? It's not like Haslam's move magically made Gruden a bad coach in a matter of hours.

Food for thought.

Because the base problems of the Haslams and Currie are still there at the moment. Until that problem is dealt with, there is no coaching search.

For all the people who can't read the tweet, here's the text, copy/pasted:

Chris Landry @LandryFootball

"I'm sure there will be a lot of passing the blame around on this one but couple of UT Officials saying tonight that driving force behind GREG SCHIANO was VOLS mega booster and Browns owner Jimmy Haslam...He previously interviewed him w/Browns & supposedly pushed hard for him.."

No power struggle huh? Why would info about a hire be leaked like this? Was it told who pushed for the hiring of Butch? Dooley? Kiffin?

This was put out there on purpose.

Want to kill a snake? Cut the head off..

I have enough clues to know you, Boro, and MIT are full of crap and that Gruden was never coming here.

Hey smart guy...why don't you quote where I professed that. It is certainly what I wanted, but I never predicted it. I learned my lesson with palace intrigue the last go-around.

And before you start jumping on people, why don't you explain what you bring to the table here. What exactly is your value other than ridiculing other posters?

would be great to fire Currie but to what end.

The cancer (AKA The Haslam Family) is still in control!

AD in crisis mode ..... A head will have to roll and that is Currie. #firecurrie Needs to be ramped up even more.

Asshat doesn't deserve to live in our state. GTFO Currie. Leave now.
I absolutely agree that Currie has to go, but it doesn't eliminate the problem, the House of Haslem!

For those saying that in light of Haslam's Backstab we should lower our expectations of the coach we hire:

HELL.
NO.

If you think somehow in the last 8 hours Gruden became undesirable as our coach, make that argument here, if you can.

But don't roll over and settle. Don't do it. Go read Maxim's 3 and 7 over and over if you have to.

Put on more steam.

I think the question is rather, why would Gruden want to step into this toxic mess of an athletic department right now?

f*** it. If it ain’t Gruden, I’m done with Tennessee Football

Don’t be so serious. Everyone knew deep down gruden wasn’t coming. It was just a message board obsession with fantasy tales of insiders and first hand encounters of VFL’s saying Gruden is coming. It was all a fairy tale.

It's kind of crazy that 12 hours ago we were on the brink of hiring a home run coach. Then the info about negotiations with Gruden came out, and it looked like a big leak. Then the Schiano story came, and everybody shrugged it off. Then the announcement that it was almost done came, and meltdown ensued. It's crazy how we all saw Petersen, Gruden, or some big name and now......

Many on here keep referring to Schiano as Currie's man. This was not Currie's decision!

This all Haslam! He wanted to hire Schiano at the Brown's almost 3 years ago. This is Haslam's deal and Currie was simply the messenger!

This is correct. And Currie will be the patsy who takes the fall for this.
