Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIII

For those saying that in light of Haslam's Backstab we should lower our expectations of the coach we hire:

HELL.
NO.

If you think somehow in the last 8 hours Gruden became undesirable as our coach, make that argument here, if you can.

But don't roll over and settle. Don't do it. Go read Maxim's 3 and 7 over and over if you have to.

Put on more steam.

More than just Haslam. That Gridiron story a few posts up of mine says everybody was told and they still moved forward.

What do you all think our recruits are going to think about this?

If Currie knew about the PSU history, or even if he didn't, why did he back out so quickly? It's not like backing out saves his job; he still looks incompetent.

None of this makes sense.

I just want to give a big ol F U to all you “insiders” to led us to this firestorm. Thanks a lot

Man I'm as pissed as anyone, but the "insiders" had nothing to do with Jimmy Haslam and John Currie trying to hire a sorry coach with a checkered past.

It's always darkest just before dawn, this s***storm will pass and hopefully UT will be for the better when the blame is laid at Haslam and Currie's collective feet.

Many on here keep referring to Schiano as Currie's man. This was not Currie's decision!

This all Haslam! He wanted to hire Schiano at the Brown's almost 3 years ago. This is Haslam's deal and Currie was simply the messenger!

Wrong. Curries name is on contract. He could have stood up to them and had the support of many other boosters.

100-85. Yeah, let's praise someone that's barely over .500 as a head coach (.541). Gruden is the second worst possible hire for UT, period.

Not trying to be disrespectful here. Maybe I am just not understanding this very well. Why would we put on steam if the contract is already signed and he is going to be our head coach like you have said on multiple occasions.

Look for Tee Martin to be the safe hire. There is a ton of damage control to do and he would likely be best received by the fan base.

The best damage control at the moment would be to either "allow" Currie to resign or straight fire his backside. And then put in a trusted man as interim AD that Vols fans know and respect. A man who will put Tennessee's interests ahead of his own.

Phil Fulmer.

And I dare anyone to give me this BS about how he's not fit to run an athletic department. We need someone the fans can trust and look up to and he's the only person outside of Pat Summit (God rest her soul) that loves Tennessee more than himself. When you're in a crisis mode, you want someone the fans can be comfortable with. He's your guy.

Everyone knew. Not just Currie. Not just Davenport. Not just the Haslams. Go read the gridiron story link a few posts back.

I am going to sleep on all of this tonight.
It has become more than obvious I have some serious decisions to make on supporting this sh!tshow any longer.

I have exactly as much as I had when I first said it. Gruden signed. And if someone wants to start discussing in the GRUDEN thread reasons why they think Les Miles is a good option for Tennessee, I reserve the right to suggest that conversation should be had in the appropriate theead not related to Jon Gruden.

It's not like I've been out here calling people frauds or liars or naive fools or any of the other things that I've seen tossed around on this thread today. Just suggesting that discussion of Les Miles' merits be conducted elsewhere.

Cheers right back atcha. :)

I know you know something that makes you very confident in Gruden. Is there any more you can share? Is there a chance you misunderstood? Shiano was once the HC of Tampa Bay...

We're literally going to end up with a Google Coach aren't we? I said it earlier today and a few people called me out on it, but this disastrous PR screw up by Currie and the rest of the athletic department will put us back for another decade. Jeff Brohm, really? I'm now in the camp that it's time to make Tennessee, Tennessee again and hire someone with ties to the university. I believe Gruden is out, but it wouldn't hurt to take one last stab at him. Literally give him anything he wants. If he still says no, grab Cutcliffe, bring back Chavis, and go get Tee as a "coach in waiting"/OC role. Otherwise, we're looking at getting another Dooley but with a better overall record. 6-6 in one year at Purdue? Come on people!

I would say that, but these guys directly trolled and lied for no reason at all

Wrong.

Fulmer may love UT but that is not the only qualification of an AD.

For all the people who can't read the tweet, here's the text, copy/pasted:

Chris Landry @LandryFootball

"I'm sure there will be a lot of passing the blame around on this one but couple of UT Officials saying tonight that driving force behind GREG SCHIANO was VOLS mega booster and Browns owner Jimmy Haslam...He previously interviewed him w/Browns & supposedly pushed hard for him.."
6:52 PM - 26 Nov 2017

So for Currie to be so good with using Twitter, didn't know how to google '"Schiano".... and he used a third party to pull out of the deal.

from the Gridiron article tonight:

"Sources also indicated that Currie used a third party to tell Schiano he would be pulling out of the deal, hours after signing the pact and also less than 24 hours after Currie was informed, per sources, of Schiano’s past at Penn State."

AD in crisis mode ..... A head will have to roll and that is Currie. #firecurrie Needs to be ramped up even more.

Asshat doesn't deserve to live in our state. GTFO Currie. Leave now.
