Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIII

For those saying that in light of Haslam's Backstab we should lower our expectations of the coach we hire:

HELL.
NO.

If you think somehow in the last 8 hours Gruden became undesirable as our coach, make that argument here, if you can.

But don't roll over and settle. Don't do it. Go read Maxim's 3 and 7 over and over if you have to.

Put on more steam.

Dammit! I NEED the like button, Freak!

This is an opinion board. Which means rumors are going to start and be shared. This isn’t PhD thesis.
Come off the high horse.
These people interning bashing others had a choice.
Listen, and choose to believe or not believe.
If you didn’t get the result you wanted then blame yourself. You had the data right or wrong and had the opportunity to interpret it any way you wanted.
Stop the blame nonsense.
The I told you so stuff is childish and unbecoming

So you're here to celebrate not hiring schiano? You're here to talk about the death of UT? You're here in a gruden thread to freak out on others? I think you're a little to invested in this man..chill

I'm not invested in the gruden bs. All these "insiders" are fake. Only posted tonight because I'm tired of seeing people spreading straight bs tell others to "gtfo".

Thank you to all of Volnation for standing up for our great university. That makes me very proud to be a Vol today.

And thank you to all the folks who have brought information. I believe that each of you were just bringing what you thought to be true.

And for all of you getting mad at the people on this thread, like others have said, direct your anger where it is deserved: our AD and anyone who sponsored this "attempted" hire.

I believe we will rise from this. Somehow. Some way. My faith is somewhat shattered on this hire but the fact is no one has been given the job yet, officially. So some hope is left.

Hold on folks. Love your Vols. Love your family. Love your friends.

And stay united, Volnation.

Exactly and as for who well it doesn’t take a detective to connect this to the haslams, they were dead set on hiring him to the Browns before the front office said no. They ended up hiring another guy but still fired those that opposed schiano.

Yea he's way out of line. I know I mentioned this a couple of weeks back about us arguing about my support for Butch back after Florida and you said you didn't remember. You, beechervol and others asked me why I was wanting to stick with Butch.

My answer was that I had no faith in our administration not to be imcompetent again when hiring a FB coach. You said new AD. I said same puppeteers moving the AD and after today my worst fears have come true.

You did....and unfortunately are proven right. Good call, but I bet you'd prefer to be wrong.

Wrong.

Fulmer may love UT but that is not the only qualification of an AD.

As an interim, we need someone the base can look up to and believe the program is in good hands.

We do not have that right now with Currie at the helm. And will not have that so long as people like Jimmy Haslam continue to pull strings behind the scenes.

No disrespect taken.

The extremely short version is that Haslam has put the University into a very bad situation, legally. My personal opinion is that he intended to do so.

I don't know what was presented to Schiano for signature. I've reached out to try to learn what I could, but have not heard back from the source who would be able to provide insight. I mentioned before that my other contact was as blindsided by this as many of us, and was livid about Schiano being even talked about.

Make no mistake: Currie followed orders from Haslam. Depending on the language of what was presented to Schiano, it may or may not create financial obligations to Schiano. But the main concern I would have is that it could create liability to Gruden, for being induced to enter into an agreement in bad faith.

IMO, Schiano was intended as a poison pill, not just for hiring Gruden, but for the whole program. Haslams feel like if they can't be in control, then no one can.

I'm trying to keep this short, but these are my thoughts as of right now. I'm sure someone will be along to call me crazy in a few minutes, but that's ok. :)

WOW so many allegations here, wow, thank you for sharing. Time to boycott Pilot?

Anymore name calling in this thread by either side and people are getting a vacation. Things are bad enough without having to deal with folks having a total disregard for the rules.

That includes GTFO and GFY.

Thanks Freak, and I volunteer to help if you need additional Mods!

I'm truly sorry Freak. The regs on here are getting disrespected badly. Not saying towards me, I don't consider my self a reg yet

Yea. And where were you? What did you? Nothing. Again you are part of the reason we are here in the first place. Go to bed mouth breaher.

Its amazing the asshats that come in here and want to say something to Knuck, Boro, Exile, and the rest. None of you have been in here until now. You choose to come in here now and be a keyboard warrior. Back the **** up and get the **** out.

If you weren't here for the entire ride, you damn sure aren't coming in here now and acting like you know something all along.

It's people like you that truly are the downfall of our program.

Just speculating, but with people like the Haslams, it's about one thing and one thing only: POWER. It's not about anything other than wanting people to kiss their ring. They got Davenport in their pocket, then Currie. When challenged by others, they outmaneuvered them and maintained their power (up until now). Gruden was wanting them to relinquish some of their power, so he had to be eliminated.

How's that? Hope Beav is right and this is the nail in the coffin of the Haslem's control of UT athletics.

I think you are correct. I believe the other power boosters expected the Haslam camp to attempt to pull this off and that camp did not disappoint. They had no intent to relinquish any of their power.
I for one do not think this kills the chances for Gruden at all. If any thing, it makes a stronger case for us to get him if we get the Haslam puppets out of the way.
A lot of people have accused Gruden of trolling us but I have seen no evidence of that at all. Still believe he actually does want to come here.
I would really like to know details of the BOT meeting a couple of weeks ago and what was agreed to or signed off on and how that aligns with the current storm.

My faith is slowly deteriorating.

Currie said do not listen to anyone about the next coach of Tennessee unless it comes directly from him.

Did he lie? Should we have faith in him to deliver? Or will the next head coach be underwhelming because of this fiasco?

It’s suspicious that he has not commented on this today.

We all wanted Gruden, but that doesn't look like it's happening unless a miracle occurs. Realistic candidates at this point are Les Miles, Tee Martin, Norvel, and a long shot, but if we throw everything at him maybe Frost will come here. We would all love Peyton, but I highly doubt he wants to take any chance to ruin his great name here. We were able to get Schiano out and now probably a new AD. We have a strong voice! Let's start using it to help get our program back on track with people who may actually want to be here! And for the record, if Gruden doesn't end up here, I have officially lost every ounce of respect for him because he threw gasoline on our fire when he could have respectively declined!

I'm starting to wonder if any of the Gruden stuff was EVER true the more I think about it. I find it hard to believe this Tampa meeting and the "Gruden contacting Tee Martin and Dale" ever actually happened. It just feels soooooooo long ago now. It's just hard to believe this was ever an option after getting a better glimpse into how Currie's mind operates following today's debacle.

Gruden was legitimately offered the job as now even national reports like the CBS story detailed. He obviously said no thanks. His signed contract stuff was just as big a fantasy as the chip kelly signed UF contract.
