Its not fascination at this point. Its what the heck are we gonna do. Its gonna be really tough to find anyone willing to take the job now. A VFL might be our only choice.
Love Tee. But, I guarantee you he got no where near a decent HS education (Williamson HS) and doubt he improved much on that at UT (the team that also had Travis Henry on the roster). He is smart, but I don't think Tee would be up to the task of running a program like UT.
As an interim, we need someone the base can look up to and believe the program is in good hands.
We do not have that right now with Currie at the helm. And will not have that so long as people like Jimmy Haslam continue to pull strings behind the scenes.
For those saying that in light of Haslam's Backstab we should lower our expectations of the coach we hire:
HELL.
NO.
If you think somehow in the last 8 hours Gruden became undesirable as our coach, make that argument here, if you can
But don't roll over and settle. Don't do it. Go read Maxim's 3 and 7 over and over if you have to.
Put on more steam.
No disrespect taken.
The extremely short version is that Haslam has put the University into a very bad situation, legally. My personal opinion is that he intended to do so.
I don't know what was presented to Schiano for signature. I've reached out to try to learn what I could, but have not heard back from the source who would be able to provide insight. I mentioned before that my other contact was as blindsided by this as many of us, and was livid about Schiano being even talked about.
Make no mistake: Currie followed orders from Haslam. Depending on the language of what was presented to Schiano, it may or may not create financial obligations to Schiano. But the main concern I would have is that it could create liability to Gruden, for being induced to enter into an agreement in bad faith.
IMO, Schiano was intended as a poison pill, not just for hiring Gruden, but for the whole program. Haslams feel like if they can't be in control, then no one can.
I'm trying to keep this short, but these are my thoughts as of right now. I'm sure someone will be along to call me crazy in a few minutes, but that's ok.![]()
Who approved the Schiano hire? Currie, Davenport, BOT, Fulmer, Peyton...
Time to figure out who EXACTLY signed off on this. It's my understanding that the Board of Trustees has to approve a head coaching hire. I'm assuming Davenport or several others coulda said no... why didn't they? This is the real story folks. Is there a power struggle going on? Someone go "cowboy" and made a move without permission?
Lets stop with the internal fighting please. We did something incredible today. We came together as a fanbase and prevented a DISASTER. We need to come together and hopefully support the new coach. We got rid of uncle funny touch, let's hope things work out.
Tee Martin is very smart. I attended an event at UT, in 1996 or 1997, as I recall, honoring Magna cum laud students, one of which was my son. I personally met and talked with Tee, who introduced himself to me as Temaurice Martin, who was also being honored, while we were waiting outside for the program to begin.
All these insiders are so upset. Im sorry, I didnt call Gruden a done deal or he was signed. You all built your bed, this is what you get.
