I know it's highly unlikely but to play Devil's advocate, what if Currie was the one that leaked or directed the leak of this Schiano hire to the media to out Haslam?

Nah, they both need to be trespassed for life.

I'm not invested in the gruden bs. All these "insiders" are fake. Only posted tonight because I'm tired of seeing people spreading straight bs tell others to "gtfo".

Yes ..go away this is a thread of hope

It’s not fascination at this point. It’s what the heck are we gonna do. It’s gonna be really tough to find anyone willing to take the job now. A VFL might be our only choice.

If that’s what you want then let’s see if Fulmer would guide us through the storm as HC again until we can find the proper hire.

Love Tee. But, I guarantee you he got no where near a decent HS education (Williamson HS) and doubt he improved much on that at UT (the team that also had Travis Henry on the roster). He is smart, but I don't think Tee would be up to the task of running a program like UT.

Tee Martin is very smart. I attended an event at UT, in 1996 or 1997, as I recall, honoring Magna cum laud students, one of which was my son. I personally met and talked with Tee, who introduced himself to me as Temaurice Martin, who was also being honored, while we were waiting outside for the program to begin.

All these insiders are so upset. I’m sorry, I didnt call Gruden a “done deal” or he was “signed”. You all built your bed, this is what you get.

Prove it. Talk directly to me like a man, and prove your accusation.

Or don't...which is much more likely.

Lets stop with the internal fighting please. We did something incredible today. We came together as a fanbase and prevented a DISASTER. We need to come together and hopefully support the new coach. We got rid of uncle funny touch, let's hope things work out.

As an interim, we need someone the base can look up to and believe the program is in good hands.

We do not have that right now with Currie at the helm. And will not have that so long as people like Jimmy Haslam continue to pull strings behind the scenes.

We don't need more chaos of another interim.

If what you believe about the Haslam's is true, you must admit that an interim will be at the Haslam's decision.

If you think the Haslam's are the problem, their influence comes from their money given to UT. A power void is usually replaced by the next big money player. Are you comfortable with that person?

In the midst of chaos, more chaos is usually not the answer.

From day 1, I’ve been consistent in saying Gruden was coming and that it was a matter of timing. I’m man enough to admit my info was wrong and I cannot make sense of any of this, so I won’t attempt to connect all the dots of the last 24 hours.

I never stated that a contract was signed, and have remained skeptical toward those who claim that happened and gave a date. But I was given (from very trustworthy people) info that gave me extreme confidence this was happening. I’ve stated my connection (married into a prominent UT family you’re all familiar with) and I am just as dumbfounded as many on here. I apologize to those whom I misled. In the future, I will be much more hesitant to post what I hear, but I was simply trying to pass along what I believed to be true information.

I’m concerned for the future of UT Football. I’m not sure how Currie survives this. I’m not sure what coach would want to be a part of this mess. I’m not sure what recruits want to join this.

Lastly, what’s clear is that there are no insiders in this search. It’s been the John Currie Show. Atlanta said he loved option 1, but option 2 was a great option as well. No way he was talking about Schiano. LWS said 60% Petersen. No one knows. Not even Fulmer apparently. Currie has dug his own grave.

For those saying that in light of Haslam's Backstab we should lower our expectations of the coach we hire:

HELL.
NO.

If you think somehow in the last 8 hours Gruden became undesirable as our coach, make that argument here, if you can

But don't roll over and settle. Don't do it. Go read Maxim's 3 and 7 over and over if you have to.

Put on more steam.

Agree. This is the time to capitalize on momentum and demand greatness...no need to settle.

No disrespect taken.

The extremely short version is that Haslam has put the University into a very bad situation, legally. My personal opinion is that he intended to do so.

I don't know what was presented to Schiano for signature. I've reached out to try to learn what I could, but have not heard back from the source who would be able to provide insight. I mentioned before that my other contact was as blindsided by this as many of us, and was livid about Schiano being even talked about.

Make no mistake: Currie followed orders from Haslam. Depending on the language of what was presented to Schiano, it may or may not create financial obligations to Schiano. But the main concern I would have is that it could create liability to Gruden, for being induced to enter into an agreement in bad faith.

IMO, Schiano was intended as a poison pill, not just for hiring Gruden, but for the whole program. Haslams feel like if they can't be in control, then no one can.

I'm trying to keep this short, but these are my thoughts as of right now. I'm sure someone will be along to call me crazy in a few minutes, but that's ok. :)

Thanks for your reply. I guess where most of us, or maybe it’s just me, struggle with the part of when insiders say it is a done deal with Gruden, then comes Schiano as the head coach. Just trying to gain a better understanding.

The #1 priority for UT as of tonight is damage control. Best way to do that is change the narrative. Best way to do that is hire the new FB coach asap so he becomes the story. I would expect someone to be in place before Friday. JMO but hard to see UT allowing this negative media to dominate any longer than it has to.

Who approved the Schiano hire? Currie, Davenport, BOT, Fulmer, Peyton...

Time to figure out who EXACTLY signed off on this. It's my understanding that the Board of Trustees has to approve a head coaching hire. I'm assuming Davenport or several others coulda said no... why didn't they? This is the real story folks. Is there a power struggle going on? Someone go "cowboy" and made a move without permission?

Currie reports to Davenport. Currie said he would be discussing the search/hire with Davenport every day because she was his boss. I highly suspect Davenport gets her marching orders from Haslem. She HAD to know Schiano was the guy, or should have known. If so, she needs to shoulder the blame and should resign or be fired. If that happens, the Haslems would probably lose control. Then, who knows, we might even get Gruden.

Why the lack of shade for Gruden? He knew the craziness and anxiety going on here. Why couldn't he have given us some clarity?

Wow! Great story! Sounds like your son and Tee are high character young men.

You’re apparently a woman based on your comments. I apologize for my insensitive comment earlier. If you’re not a woman, I’m still sorry because it was insulting to women anyway. But I stand by my comment that you need to be blaming Currie and Haslam. Even Brice as of today said people in the AD knew there was no way Schiano was coming here yet he went out and betrayed all of us. They are trolls and liars if the predicted Gruden was coming and then Gruden said no and everything they said wasn’t true. This isn’t a matter of them lying. It’s all of us being lied to.

What’s your phone number? Want me to call you? You can’t sit there and act like we weren’t mislead. I never called you you bc you are respectful and rational unlike others on this board.
