Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIII

No disrespect taken.

The extremely short version is that Haslam has put the University into a very bad situation, legally. My personal opinion is that he intended to do so.

I don't know what was presented to Schiano for signature. I've reached out to try to learn what I could, but have not heard back from the source who would be able to provide insight. I mentioned before that my other contact was as blindsided by this as many of us, and was livid about Schiano being even talked about.

Make no mistake: Currie followed orders from Haslam. Depending on the language of what was presented to Schiano, it may or may not create financial obligations to Schiano. But the main concern I would have is that it could create liability to Gruden, for being induced to enter into an agreement in bad faith.

IMO, Schiano was intended as a poison pill, not just for hiring Gruden, but for the whole program. Haslams feel like if they can't be in control, then no one can.

I'm trying to keep this short, but these are my thoughts as of right now. I'm sure someone will be along to call me crazy in a few minutes, but that's ok. :)

any financial obligations should be born by the d&&& Haslam family.

The UT AD must rid itself of the death grip that the Haslam family has on it!

UTVOLEXILE is still on here blasting fantasy stories about reaching out to connections and “information” learned.. hilarious at this point. The Gruden bit in the last comment was great “this could be a problem for Gruden deal” LMAO ya think? There IS NO Gruden deal baha troll on

Glad you can laugh. :) Someone asked a pretty complex question and I answered as best I could without getting tl;dr.

You are strongly encouraged to place me on ignore. :)

Wrong. Curries name is on contract. He could have stood up to them and had the support of many other boosters.

Just a thought..curries Developed a friendship with schiano while at Kansas. If anyone doesn't know schianos role in the Sandusky debacle do some research. First denying any knowledge of what was happening...came out later he Made a statement about witnessing an actually abuse event And did nothing. That's the Currie/schiano connection as I gathered info on schiano from several sites. Schiano...not someone I'd want for lack of moral backbone. Really glad the masses spoke their minds on this matter.

Maybe in the long run this will be viewed as the new beginning for the athletic program.

This may be the event that takes control away from the Haslam family and will give us a chance to move forward in the right direction.

If they wouldn’t relinquish control willingly, then maybe they hung themselves with their own rope so to speak.

Grasping at straws here and trying to find positivity in such a pathetic firestorm that this day has become for all of us.

Dude, you're letting a small minority influence you. The vast majority of people on this site appreciate your contribution. We'll get thru this and be better for it with the info you can provide. Grude on, dude!

Let that crap die. Gruden will not be here. Never was. We certainly don’t blame anyone who brought us info. None of us can help what happens behind closed doors. This is a UTAD mess. No one on this board is responsible.

Wait what? Came out where? Here?

What did he say exactly?

From 9:36pm tonight

"The early objectives were the following 1) Prevent Fan Apathy 2) Raise fan expectations to match what our school deserves 3) Leverage fan expectations to corner Currie and raise his willingness to pay for Gruden/Tier 1 Coach. Obviously other moves were happening in private."

So, obviously a bit different from "Stop freaking out, Gruden is a done deal like I said a few weeks ago" etc.

From day 1, I’ve been consistent in saying Gruden was coming and that it was a matter of timing. I’m man enough to admit my info was wrong and I cannot make sense of any of this, so I won’t attempt to connect all the dots of the last 24 hours.

I never stated that a contract was signed, and have remained skeptical toward those who claim that happened and gave a date. But I was given (from very trustworthy people) info that gave me extreme confidence this was happening. I’ve stated my connection (married into a prominent UT family you’re all familiar with) and I am just as dumbfounded as many on here. I apologize to those whom I misled. In the future, I will be much more hesitant to post what I hear, but I was simply trying to pass along what I believed to be true information.

I’m concerned for the future of UT Football. I’m not sure how Currie survives this. I’m not sure what coach would want to be a part of this mess. I’m not sure what recruits want to join this.

Lastly, what’s clear is that there are no insiders in this search. It’s been the John Currie Show. Atlanta said he loved option 1, but option 2 was a great option as well. No way he was talking about Schiano. LWS said 60% Petersen. No one knows. Not even Fulmer apparently. Currie has dug his own grave.

I appreciate your info, even if this is a 2nd account

Don’t let the goobers get to you, ignore them
The thread is a lot more pleasant that way

We all wanted Gruden, but that doesn't look like it's happening unless a miracle occurs. Realistic candidates at this point are Les Miles, Tee Martin, Norvel, and a long shot, but if we throw everything at him maybe Frost will come here. We would all love Peyton, but I highly doubt he wants to take any chance to ruin his great name here. We were able to get Schiano out and now probably a new AD. We have a strong voice! Let's start using it to help get our program back on track with people who may actually want to be here! And for the record, if Gruden doesn't end up here, I have officially lost every ounce of respect for him because he threw gasoline on our fire when he could have respectively declined!

1. David Cutcliff
2. Kevin Sumlin
3. Lane Kiffin
4. Jim Bob Cooter
5. Dave Clawson

Why the lack of shade for Gruden? He knew the craziness and anxiety going on here. Why couldn't he have given us some clarity?

Don't blame Gruden for the gullibility of the many people on this board who willingly drank in the Fantasy Lies of Gruden becoming the next UT coach.

still say gruden to the hill
it aint over till its over
fat lady hasnt sung yet
we still got an at bat

And out of all the ways to a avoid seeing the "bs" you chose "stay in the Gruden thread, when I could go to the other threads"... Again knuck and those guys gave info knowing people like you were lurking in the dark waiting to pounce.. To bad there isn't another thread for people that don't believe in or want to hear about Gruden...maybe all of us gruden people should stop going to the other threads and freaking out on everyone not pro gruden.. Carry on.. Just waiting for you to go back into the dark

I came to the gruden thread because its entertaining in a comedic way. Its gold reading about "smokescreen and controlled leaks", or gruden being at calhouns for lunch on game day with peyton manning but somehow not having 10 thousand people take a pic of him before he caught a flight back to Seattle.. Lol its just fun to read. And I never "freaked out on everybody pro gruden", I responded to one guy pretending to be connected always telling people to gtfo. Not explaining myself to you anymore though, so if ya don't like it ignore me.

Maybe the ESPN insiders weren't the jokes after all.

I keep going back to the report of Larry during the game last night basically saying ‘whereTF is Currie? He left and nobody knows where he went.’

It worried me then and for good reason apparently. People that should’ve known, didn’t. Time to take this program back. Currie won’t survive this.

Wow! Great story! Sounds like your son and Tee are high character young men.

Thank you. I am indeed proud of my son as he graduated from UT with degree in Electrical Engineering. He is also an avid football and Gruden fan but his heart is broken tonite. He calls himself Knoxskivol here. I remember how impressed I was talking with Tee. He was obviously smart and was very well spoken, but more than that he was also so well mannered and a true gentleman.

So after all that, Beav was just a troll with an agenda?

If I responded to you in error I apologize.

You're off base however, on the several others. You've not been active in this thread prior to now....so why the angst?

I just haven’t posted. I’ve still been here. I read constantly. I just don’t think it’s right for people to insult those who want to question posters who stated it was a 100% done deal. Yea it was fun, I enjoyed it, but it’s time to own up. Again, not directed at you

Doesn’t matter. We’re still gonna be Tennessee. **** what the media says about us. Since when have we placed any stock in what they think of us anyway....

Vol For Life damnit!

Did beaver survive tonight or did the trolls eat him

He survived. I'd expect him to lay-low for a while considering the supreme amount of backlash he would face.

I don't think he was a troll. I think most everyone involved except two parties (Haslams and Currie) were blindsided by the events today.

Too much smoke about Gruden for the offer to have not been made.

Just my opinion.
