Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIII

From day 1, I’ve been consistent in saying Gruden was coming and that it was a matter of timing. I’m man enough to admit my info was wrong and I cannot make sense of any of this, so I won’t attempt to connect all the dots of the last 24 hours.

I never stated that a contract was signed, and have remained skeptical toward those who claim that happened and gave a date. But I was given (from very trustworthy people) info that gave me extreme confidence this was happening. I’ve stated my connection (married into a prominent UT family you’re all familiar with) and I am just as dumbfounded as many on here. I apologize to those whom I misled. In the future, I will be much more hesitant to post what I hear, but I was simply trying to pass along what I believed to be true information.

I’m concerned for the future of UT Football. I’m not sure how Currie survives this. I’m not sure what coach would want to be a part of this mess. I’m not sure what recruits want to join this.

Lastly, what’s clear is that there are no insiders in this search. It’s been the John Currie Show. Atlanta said he loved option 1, but option 2 was a great option as well. No way he was talking about Schiano. LWS said 60% Petersen. No one knows. Not even Fulmer apparently. Currie has dug his own grave.

Who produced this bolded text Broadway show above? The answer is the Ottendorf Cipher solution for all...

Does anyone think Shiano was the only coach approached to this point?
No the list of those who have said "no" to us probably looks something like Kelly, Gruden, Patterson, Petersen, and Mullen. Schiano was likely an attempt at an emergency stop-gap that failed miserably.

I made this account a few weeks ago due to me not remembering my old password or user name but I have been lurking in the shadows since we fired Dooley but haven't posted until now with this username I work at vandy strictly to support my family and them paying 70% of my 3 kids college tuition but have family that is alum of tennessee and my brother played tuba in the pride of the southland band for 2 years.... all that to say I know many of the athletic admin and coaches at vandy and talk to them regularly they all had been hearing the same thing about gruden but With a little twist. They had heard that the big boosters(not the Haslam side) had been the ones working on the Gruden deal and had an agreement with him. Currie and the Haslam side didn't want it and wanted a different coach. From what they heard today Currie basically told them he had his guy and he would be hiring Schiano. They were mad to say it lightly and have been trying to stop Currie and get him out ever since. It sort of explains all the (sources) that are looking wrong now but it doesn't fix the big problem in our upper management. Just putting it out there. Their are alot of rumors out there so make your own conclusions but it kinda makes sense

I'm afraid as long as the Haslams keep pumping money into the University, very little will change. They don't want to upset their cash cow..

I wonder how much of that $340 million they invested. I also wonder what they got in return for that investment.

Meh... I don't think that's possible, really. Too many other people with the same story. Granted, one person could have 5-10 accounts on VolNation but I'm guessing it'd be pretty obvious to Freak. I tend to believe an unbelievable offer was on the table for Gruden, but Currie reports to Haslams, Haslams want power (which I don't understand why you want power over a program you've killed off, but whatever), and this went sideways fast.

Gruden still hasn't said no, for the record. Then again, our AD hasn't said jack today despite us getting tied to the back of a pickup truck and drug for 100 miles on the interstate...

An efficient summary of today..Well done

Best situation is now Boosters have had enough and saw what Haslam tried to do today and Currie gets fired or resigns and Blackburn or Fulmer takes control

Yeah let’s panic and hire another Dooley. Okay guy. Smart move.

My name is Jason. And it’s not a panic hire. There is a list of candidates. They will approach them starting tomorrow. They have a million reasons to move quickly and zero to keep this train wreck hanging out there. It is a smart move despite your belief.

Wow, just wow! Proud of my fanbase for standing up, but my gosh how far back has this set our 4-8 football program?

We won't recover soon. Point the finger at Haslam and Davenport for going to Kansas and getting a puppet in the 1st place. Everyone wanted Blackburn. Keep bringing these outta touch non-alumni in here to run things and all they are are yes men/women to Haslam. He's the root obvious.

Unless Currie contacted them before or immediately after he fired Butch, that is unlikely. Apparently the deal with Schiano was made 2 weeks ago. IMO, Schiano was his only target; hence, no search committee.

It's over. IT'S OVER. I don't need to see any posts about Gruden and his MOU or contract which I one billion percent believe never existed.

Now we are the punching bag for all the national media who said Tennessee isn't an elite job. They obvs are right.

Sickening.

Maybe you should leave the GRUDEN thread?

I’d like to apologize as well. When I reported info, I named the names of the mid level boosters, the one man within the AD and even a BOT member. I’ve read texts with my own eyes and spoke to second hand informed people in person. I’m a die hard Vol fan who grew up with season tickets. I fully believed we were getting gruden. I’m sorry that hasn’t happened and until we get a new AD it will not happen.

Let me tell you what I have heard.

The mid level boosters are backing off their pledges to the renovations of Neyland. They have heard the big boys are as well. It’s almost unanimous that they want Currie out. I don’t see him making it through this. The chattanooga guys are all pushing hard for Blackburn. It appears that has gained traction throughout the night in Knoxville. The understanding is Currie was telling certain boosters what they wanted to hear and working with Haslam in private.

We are fortunate that these boosters and VFL received a leak about schiano becoming the next head coach. This promoted them to use their connections and get our congressmen and the next potential governor to weigh in. This political pressure was what broke the camels back. Currie was prepared to trot schiano out and the fans would end their protests and move on within the week. This political pressure also forced Espn to show the tweets. This was much more influential then most are aware.

Don’t eat your own. This isn’t anyone’s fault on the board. That’s a fact.

Thank you. I am indeed proud of my son as he graduated from UT with degree in Electrical Engineering. He is also an avid football and Gruden fan but his heart is broken tonite. He calls himself Knoxskivol here. I remember how impressed I was talking with Tee. He was obviously smart and was very well spoken, but more than that he was also so well mannered and a true gentleman.

Nice! I can feel you beaming with pride and you should Dad!

I'd like to share my son also so it might bring smiles to others on such a uneventful evening.

My son, SWFLvol33, just graduated this past summer from UT In Supply Chain Management, 4 year ROTC cadet and became Commissioned as an Officer in the United States Army.

He heads off to Army Flight School in 60 days.

He STILL believes JG is coming though. lol

Like you, very proud father. Perhaps the future of our country is actually in good hands after all? :)
