Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIII

Somewhere in my board reading Friday, the UT powers leaked Schiano's name out and let in start mushrooming for the Sunday announcement. Unbelievable. The Tn. Vol fans for Life said no way. The Haslam's and Currie were just planning that we the vol fans to accept it and be happy, but we said hell no. The money, power play, and politics that these people use has ruined Tn. football. We need Tn. alums back in the AD seat and coaching staff if we ever plan on being a force in the SEC and tell the Haslams to stay in Cleveland.

Mournfully bumping this, as everyone seems to have been too busy ya-ya'ing and neener-neenering one another to address it:
So...

I'm not sure that anyone in his right mind would want to come here to coach, at least until the crap is cleaned out of the BoT and boosters, but:

IF Gruden was never really an option, or IF he was, and all this garbage makes him walk away, whatever happened to the Petersen discussions?

Many of us were OK with him as the alternate if Gruden fell through.

Is he still around? Did he sign a billion-dollar extension?

Again, assuming that a serious house-cleaning is underway.

I made this account a few weeks ago due to me not remembering my old password or user name but I have been lurking in the shadows since we fired Dooley but haven't posted until now with this username I work at vandy strictly to support my family and them paying 70% of my 3 kids college tuition but have family that is alum of tennessee and my brother played tuba in the pride of the southland band for 2 years.... all that to say I know many of the athletic admin and coaches at vandy and talk to them regularly they all had been hearing the same thing about gruden but With a little twist. They had heard that the big boosters(not the Haslam side) had been the ones working on the Gruden deal and had an agreement with him. Currie and the Haslam side didn't want it and wanted a different coach. From what they heard today Currie basically told them he had his guy and he would be hiring Schiano. They were mad to say it lightly and have been trying to stop Currie and get him out ever since. It sort of explains all the (sources) that are looking wrong now but it doesn't fix the big problem in our upper management. Just putting it out there. Their are alot of rumors out there so make your own conclusions but it kinda makes sense

Post more

I was driving all day, and almost wrecked multiple times trying to keep up.

The whole time, while I secretly laughed at "smoke screens" and "controlled leaks" the overall picture was one of Currie being a mastermind and having several whales on the line, just waiting to pill one in at the right moment.

At the end of the day he was nothing but the man behind the curtain. A fake and a fraud. Somehow Tennessee has become this, and it's awful. We need to clean house from AD to boosters. Restart and let only those with UT's interest in mind run the show. No more outsiders. VFLs who get it and what it means for the fan base.

Dang, so this rumor sides with my theory.

I'll take it.. I'm officially an insider. Y'all can keep your boosters, I don't need one. Lol

Hate away boys!!!

Twitter reacts to Tennessee’s Schiano mess

I can't recall a time when a fanbase literally sunk a bad hire before it even happened. Damn proud of you guys/girls.

Don't think this was ever about Gruden, we have had hints of power struggle, I feel Gruden was a means to an end, Currie. We have heard some boosters were blind sided by the Currie hire I think Gruden was used to unify the fans to ultimately get rid of Currie. I think Gruden and we the fans were pawns in a scheme to change the current paradigm at the university.

My source has just told me that tomorrow Currie will hold a presser wherein he will first EAD, then commit Seppuku.

CONFIRMED.

To be fair, Boro only leaked that Butch was gone, never that Gruden was coming for sure. The ones that leaked Gruden may have very well gotten good info, the Haslams may have not liked that because Gruden wouldn't take their **** so they forced yes man Currie to after yes man Schiano. That backfired and now they are all scrambling. Just my .02 but cbs even leaked that we were talking to Gruden. The haslams nipped that along with Johnny yes sir.

Oh Boro leaked that Butch was getting fired?? What a damn soothsayer he is. My mother knew he was gonna get fired in September and she doesn't even watch football.

I’d like to apologize as well. When I reported info, I named the names of the mid level boosters, the one man within the AD and even a BOT member. I’ve read texts with my own eyes and spoke to second hand informed people in person. I’m a die hard Vol fan who grew up with season tickets. I fully believed we were getting gruden. I’m sorry that hasn’t happened and until we get a new AD it will not happen.

Let me tell you what I have heard.

The mid level boosters are backing off their pledges to the renovations of Neyland. They have heard the big boys are as well. It’s almost unanimous that they want Currie out. I don’t see him making it through this. The chattanooga guys are all pushing hard for Blackburn. It appears that has gained traction throughout the night in Knoxville. The understanding is Currie was telling certain boosters what they wanted to hear and working with Haslam in private.

We are fortunate that these boosters and VFL received a leak about schiano becoming the next head coach. This promoted them to use their connections and get our congressmen and the next potential governor to weigh in. This political pressure was what broke the camels back. Currie was prepared to trot schiano out and the fans would end their protests and move on within the week. This political pressure also forced Espn to show the tweets. This was much more influential then most are aware.

Don’t eat your own. This isn’t anyone’s fault on the board. That’s a fact.

Thank You

I’d give you 1,000 likes if I could

Matt Campbell would be the best option now. Pay his buyout and get him to the hill. He beat 2 top 10 teams this year with Iowa St.
He can coach and rebuilt Iowa St to a contender

Currie has to be gone after this, I just don’t see any way he survives the utter **** storm he has caused.

If you hire someone without a search firm that vets this kind of stuff- that's where you end up. Take the MOU settlement out of Curries SEVERANCE pay
There is no getting out of this now. All that can be done is to manage the fallout and hire some schmuck to be the caretaker for the next four years.

Hopefully in that time frame the Haslams will be marginalized by others or become incapacitated to the point they can no longer interfere with Tennessee Athletics.

This is where we find ourselves. Though it will be hard I will no longer buy tickets, clothing etc. I will become a casual fan, my Saturdays will be spent doing more enjoyable things. When this administration decides they are serious about this football program I will once again be a T-total fan.

I feel horrible for these players. I know a recruit currently being recruited in the 2019 class. If he asks me or opens the door for opinion I will tell him I love Tennessee but I would not recommend he commit to Tennessee right now but he should follow his heart wherever that leads.

I am disgusted and at a loss for words. Any one who supported this decision to offer Schiano needs to sever ties with this University. And yes, that would include Peyton if reports are true.

Best situation is now Boosters have had enough and saw what Haslam tried to do today and Currie gets fired or resigns and Blackburn or Fulmer takes control

It will never happen. The Other boosters will have to stage a hostile takeover of the AD first.

I think the women in the Gruden Thread are outstanding. :)

If the men in VolNation were as awesome as the women, this place would be a helluva lot more fun right now.

All you self-righteous posters need to backup and look in the mirror. It's just a coaching search. If you were mislead by someone claiming to be an insider, part of the blame is on you. Stop the finger pointing and whiny obsession. It's a bad look on you.

Lighten up. Let's see how the next few days play out.

Nice! I can feel you beaming with pride and you should Dad!

I'd like to share my son also so it might bring smiles to others on such a uneventful evening.

My son, SWFLvol33, just graduated this past summer from UT In Supply Chain Management, 4 year ROTC cadet and became Commissioned as an Officer in the United States Army.

He heads off to Army Flight School in 60 days.

Like you, very proud father. Perhaps the future of our country is actually in good hands after all? :)

My Dad will probably be one of his instructors at Rucker!

I love each and every one of my Vol brethren, but looking at everything as if it's an episode of Game of Thrones is getting kind of silly. Sure, we can look at it from the standpoint of hope and wonder, but we need to start having a more objective outlook into finding a new HC before it's too late.

I've been on the Gruden train for as long as anyone, but it's time to say "either come out and admit interest, or let us move on". We can't keep dreaming for one person until 2050
