No up-and-comers. They get here and become up-and-fizzle-outers.

Homerun...or pitchforks, torches, and mass sofa and mattress carnage.

Agree! Seeing someone settle for that type of hire makes me want to reach through the screen and shake some sense into the person that says 'fill-in-the-blank isn't a bad hire.'

I'm not sure I'm following the field repairs nugget. They wouldn't announce at Neyland, would they? Never have. Also, wouldn't they be working to get the field ready to be put to bed for the winter? Painting the field is definitely odd though.

Pictures maybe?

I think it has to do with them putting a promotional package together for the new hire. Taking pics of the new coach inside the stadium etc

The thought of Mullen, Norvell, or Campbell in Orange makes me want to string myself up with piano wire.

Here's my thing. If, by some reason if, Gruden fell through and we struck out on Petersen, we have to have a hire this year. The last two games have shown us we cannot go with an interim staff into next season while looking for a new coach.

I'll tell you why I'm reasonably high on Norvell being a decent hire. Not a home run hire, but a standing double as a minimum. Before Debord was hired some years ago, I was looking at talent at OC around the country. Two names kept popping up as the "up and comers" in the coordinator role, Mike Norvell (when he was at Arizona State) and Lincoln Riley (when he was at ECU). Both showed great promise and sharp offensive minds. Before Debord was hired, I had hoped to see Riley or Norvell come into UT to provide the spark of nastiness in our offense. That didn't happen and I feel we missed the train on that one. But now?

Riley is now looking to possibly make the Playoffs in his first year as a HC. Norvell is looking to make serious money at a P5 school when, not if, they offer him. We aren't getting Riley by any means. Norvell is still a possibility if all other plans fall through.

You know me, Boro, I'm full on Grude. If Gruden misses the train, offer the moon, stars and anything else Petersen wants. After that? Go with the safe hire.

Thought I read that they liked to do meet-and-greets of new hires out on the field.

I have slept since then though.

Gruden or Petersen move the dial guys. Grand came up with the best reference for the others “Bing McGoogles” still laughing about it. Going to miss this hobby if he rolls out anyone that would cause anyone on here to say” hey I will give him a chance to see..” BS

"I have been told my multiple sources that as of now, no hire has been made.

Could something happen later today? Maybe as a source said he wouldn't rule it out.

But there's nothing done this morning with any coach."

“ohio state defensive coordinator greg schiano has been a popular name over the last handful of days, but the former rutgers and tampa bay buccaneers head coach doesn’t seem to be a serious candidate for the opening at tennessee.

Feedback from athletic-department personnel has been that schiano would not be a good fit as tennessee’s next head coach.”

If it falls that far, and it won't...I'm done. I won't support another mid major hire.

I'm not going to give my tacit approval for the status quo.
