He certainly is and has been my first choice not named gruden. Darn great night to be a Vol!!!!

Well no one can say Tennessee didn't have the oportunity to control it's own destiny, if it's Strong I'll support the Vols as I have for the last 40 years. I'm not so sure Charlie Strong is what the Vols need at this point in time. UT hasn't done so well selecting previous coaches so I hope we get this one right for a change.....only time will tell

Hart has been a name; a 'pawn', if you will. Keeping up appearances and staying in the spotlight.
While he's "seen in Oklahoma" or "just landing in Florida" it's giving the necessary time and (I HATE using this word) "screening" for things to 'fall into place'.

And after the Arkansas announcement, I got a text saying "Looks like it could be sooner than we thought"

Why won't some of you give him a chance? Maybe he's not the hack you think he is? Maybe he didn't have the resources at Louisville that he needed. Maybe he didn't have the support from the right people. Any number of possibilities could be why he wasn't as successful at Louisville as some of you think he should have been. Could be he's just a bad coach. I trust that Dave Hart and UT exhausted every resource available to them to hire the best coach possible and this was the guy they settled.

Above all else, above records or rankings or anything, he gets his players to play hard. Combine the talent that the SEC naturally attracts with 100% effort and you will win games. That was Dooley's biggest problem, he couldn't get enough out of his players to win. Based on what I saw of Louisville and the way his defenses played at USC and Florida, Strong will motivate players give maximum effort.

For the record, I don't agree with the people saying that Strong will fail. Is he a mediocre hire (in comparison to Gruden)? Yes, yes he is. But if he is announced as HC (and I seriously doubt that he will be), I will gladly step up and get behind him because even a mediocre hire is better than the dumpster fire that was Dooley. But I still believe that Gruden will be our next HC everything else being equal.

Neyland would never look that way even with the Vol faithful, because Vol fans don't abandon this team.

This is a Top-10 program. The things this school has to offer and its history reserves it space, comfortably, in that top 10. Tell me why a top program should settle for Strong as its head coach? Are you so blind that you can't see how much of an injustice that would be to the program and the fan-base?

It's going to look the same way it has for the last 3 years. Some people will refuse to give Strong a chance from the beginning, just like Dooley.

Since his prowess as a recruiter is the supposed to be his #1 selling point my guess is that the honeymoon won't last much past the first week in February. For all those who want to smoke the Strong Bong there will be the added bonus of being able to hurl the racist label at anyone who questions the head coach. I can hardly wait.

It looks empty with less than 95,000 to me, and that's what you'll see every single week with continued mediocrity. Gamedays as a whole cost too much money as it is and most people are too frugal to waste it on bad "entertainment."

You're crazy to compare Dooley, who had a losing record at LaTech and was basically Saban's paperboy, to Strong who was leading badass defenses for Holtz, Zooker, and Meyer, and then turning around the Louisville Kragthorpe dumpster fire.

To even mention the two in the same sentence, shows the total and complete depth of your ignorance.

The UT job was in play until the Raiders called. That screwed it up. We came really close and almost got it done.

No shame in that. UT stepped up, we just weren't Gruden's preference.

NFL tampering could come into play with that not to mention the media saying the ESPN contract keeps him from the NFL due to his access for MNF.

Strong is a proven coordinator, people forget his defense was what won the NC in 06, and 08. He has been listed as the assistant coach of the year, which CHAVIS has won as well, and has been listed as recruiter of the year multiple times. He took Louisville and made then 10-2 and playing a BCS bowl game with South Florida players who had no business in Kentucky. He will do great here with the resources. He was always an SEC guy.

Petrino was 41-9 at Louisville, taking them 12-1, 11-1, 9-4, 9-3... please continue...
