Since his prowess as a recruiter is the supposed to be his #1 selling point my guess is that the honeymoon won't last much past the first week in February. For all those who want to smoke the Strong Bong there will be the added bonus of being able to hurl the racist label at anyone who questions the head coach. I can hardly wait.

Yeah it's going to get brutal in here... I feel sorry for the mods that will have to deal with all of it.

I hope Freak nukes all you "Grudenites" after Coach Strong is announced as head coach. It's obvious all you all will be are trolls to the board.

Kinda like your doing now....why does it bother you so much that we want something exceptional for UT...why does it bother you that we want to come out of the abyss of what we have ALL endured for the longest while and we thing Gruden is the answer to that...why does it bother you that we may be letting ourselves in for a load of disappointment...I can guarantee I will not be asking you to wipe my tears so you really have no vested interest in this forum other than to strut your premature "I told you so" ...hopefully for our program we (grudenites) wont have the opportunity to come back in few years and do the same to you. I will support any coach that takes on the job of HC but that deosnt mean that is who I wanted and I have to go blindly when I don't agree with it

I seriously doubt we hire strong. Maybe chucky and hart have just been waiting go the clouds to clear(other job openings, the auburn one messed up the timeline). If you're going to hire the best coach out there , you want that to be THE news. Recruiting? What has he been doing every Monday night? It's never been about money, only timing. There isn't anyone who's going to steal chuckys thunder. If this is the plot this will be epic.

FYI:

Strong interviewed for head coaching jobs at:

Cal
East Carolina
Kansas
Minnesota
Vanderbilt
considered by UK prior to the hiring of Brooks.

All passed on him.

I guess all of those schools were racists as well.

He was asked to interview at Auburn and Arkansas and passed on them.

Hypothetical: UT makes public unofficial offer to Strong, fully awar that UL will match and exceed any offer they make, then they pull out of bidding war. This would feed smokescreen theory and be reason why Strong was #1 target, because UT knew UL would outbid them and would give them an out and reason to go again to Gruden with all out effort making Hart the hero.
Not at all saying this is what is happening, just popped in my head.

Maybe its only coincidence, maybe not that both Strong and Gundy are at schools most believe would match any offers from other schools. Interesting

Was it full?

Was any game at Neyland full besides FL? absolutely not, and rightfully so, Dooley screwed up, could not produce. Saying Strong would be the equivalent is not doing due diligence. We are where we are because of Hamilton, if you have a beef go find him in Africa.

Why won't some of you give him a chance? Maybe he's not the hack you think he is? Maybe he didn't have the resources at Louisville that he needed. Maybe he didn't have the support from the right people. Any number of possibilities could be why he wasn't as successful at Louisville as some of you think he should have been. Could be he's just a bad coach. I trust that Dave Hart and UT exhausted every resource available to them to hire the best coach possible and this was the guy they settled.

Above all else, above records or rankings or anything, he gets his players to play hard. Combine the talent that the SEC naturally attracts with 100% effort and you will win games. That was Dooley's biggest problem, he couldn't get enough out of his players to win. Based on what I saw of Louisville and the way his defenses played at USC and Florida, Strong will motivate players give maximum effort.

Most of us will give him a chance. I would bet that the majority of people didn't take this thread as seriously as some of you concerned people think we did. It was a great fun and there was times where we really thought we had our guy. It ain't over till it's over, and I enjoyed reading this more than anything I've ever read on VOL NATION,--that is until we get yelled at and lectured on how delusional we are.

There are a lot of things I would like to say right now but most are probably not allowed.
Why would someone get on here and bash people for believing that a great coach is coming to save OUR team ? These same people are ready to settle for Charlie friggin Strong. Who are the real fans here ?

Because I brought info that I told you all I didn't believe? Lol. Sorry.

And it's not an "I told you so" motive.

It's a "Get off Gruden's dick and appreciate the great hire we're about to make." I don't want anyone to have their hearts totally set on Gruden, because that was never going to happen, and it makes every other candidate look bad.

Folks are going to support whoever the coach is, why jump in this thread right after Gruden fans found out he's likely not happening? You expected any other reaction? Give it time, man. These are your fellow Vol fans not some rival fan base. It's not like they jumped in the recruiting form to complain about Strong. No, you jumped in here to pounce.

And, why would you share "insider" info that you yourself didn't believe? Makes no sense.

We it not you supporting the Chattanooga reporter yesterday? If not, my apologies.

The report in the TFP is accurate. And if you are saying you think he got his info from Gruden's agent, then I'm not sure what to say. I must be misunderstanding?

Regardless, the reason for what I think has nothing to do with Hargis, even though I think his report was 100% accurate.

Strong will bring us back.

To the Fulmer years....circa 2008.

The irony of someone in this thread talking about other people being duped.

Nobody came to the Strong thread to try to convince you it was Gruden.

Nobody came into the Gundy thread and posted:

"He's not coming" and ran away.

In case you missed it, it is a GRUDEN THREAD.

I'm not going to step away from a team I've followed for as long as I can remember in my life(23 years old) just because my team didn't hire the guy I wanted them to. I do like Strong, but even if I didn't, I would support him until he gives me reason not to. I will support Hart until he gives me reason not to. I would also support Gruden, Gundy, or whoever else until they gave me reason not to. But I will always support the Tennessee Volunteers. It's much more than individuals running the team, it's the team itself.

If the AD is a failure and the coach is a failure, they will be gotten rid of. What won't leave/be gotten rid of is our team.

I agree, but you also don't have to give more money in these economic times. You young guys think emotionally, like some of us older posters, but when the future is uncertain, you cut out some of the luxuries in your life, like giving money to a program that has sh@t on your contribution repeatedly in the last 8 years.

I'm sure we will still all support the Vols, but because we no longer feel the need to contribute financially... then maybe it's time for orthers to step up to the plate.
