I understand. This hire is somewhat similar to Dooley's, but Butch has a better resume than Dooley. Even still, I can understand your apprehension given his lack of coaching at the top college level.

However, is it fair to those kids on the team that bust their butts every Saturday and give their all of Tennessee if we do not support them because the hire is not the big name we wanted? Those kids deserve our support. They chose to come here and win, not lose. They chose to come here and represent our school for themselves, their school, and us - the fans.

"All we are saying... is give Butch a chance"... sings the Football Player choir LOL :p

I respect what you have to say. Like I said beofre I will support these kids and this program like I have my entire life. I have never missed watching or listening to game (minus the years I was deployed overseas). I just think we could have made a better hire.

Scorched earth....

Looks like I was wrong. Not the first time. Won't be the last.

Underwhelmed by the result of the search.

This is not a post against the OG's. I'm really just curious if the OG's have talked to their sources and can give us any feedback as to how the Butch Jones deal happened? I just want to know if a Gruden deal was blown and who allowed this to happen.

Thanks for any info you can provide!

I would like to know as well. Thanks

Butch is obviously not the sharpest coach in the NCAA, but if he puts together a solid staff with people like Graham and Tee, then he will be successful. Assistants coaches are what define a coaching administration.

From a career standpoint, I don't see Tee Martin leaving USC to work under Butch Jones. I know the man loves UT but he probably has future aspirations as well. If this would have been a big name hire, then I could see him returning to UT.

I want to appologize for being wrong. I relayed information as I was told it. It was never my intent to lead people astray, I honestly believed what I was told.

I really don't know what to think about this hire. I just have a sinking feeling.

Again my sincere apologies for being wrong.

OV you have nothing to be sorry for. You were never smug or high and mighty in your posts and you were consistent and entertaining. There are a couple though that deserve a little heat. :hi:

This is a scared hire. If I'm hiring a coach for our job, I want to know a few things:

1. What is your experience recruiting in the South?
2. What is your plan for winning the recruiting wars against the other teams in this conference?
3. How can you keep the players we have and the recruits we want?
4. Can you explain how you lost to Derek Dooley?

Is it just about the fact he has won at Cincy? He may be a good coach (looks like the General) but what does the future look like

So Hart got a BJ in the middle of the night? Well, I hope he enjoyed it, because it will be his last.

I can't believe we have a BJ for a coach.

I am hearing that big $$$$ donors were not behind this hire, hence the salary.....

Hopefully big $$$ donors will withhold any further capital contributions to UT and the Athletic Department. If they do, it will cripple the Athletic Department which is already in dire straits.

Screw Hart!

Been fun guys , I hope our new coach does a bang up job , not the guy I wanted but hey it is what it is.....if we have Dooley 2.0t then I will be back in 2015 to enjoy yet another coaching search....would have rather had Fulmer or strong but maybe it will all work out....Here's to hope!

Ditto. It sucks, but maybe he will do better than we think. All the great coaches out there had to start somewhere. Maybe we are Jones' chance to show everyone he is the next great coach. I know he lost to Dooley, but that was with a Cincinnati team, not a Vols team! Like someone said before, he did reportedly turn down multiple jobs, yet he wanted this one. Doesn't look like anyone else wanted it, so at least for that I thank him. I hope the fans will support him and more importantly, support our players. Now as for Hart & Cheek & Martin, THEY NEED TO GO!!!

We have more in common than we do different. I am truly disappointed by this hire on so many levels. But I can't change it. If this truly was a case of Hart going overboard then I'm certain that will be handled inshort order.

But I can't fault Butch Jones. He did nothing wrong. Me disparaging him and not cheering for the Vols makes his job harder. I want what you want - for Tennessee to win. Let's go with what we have until it's clear we need to go elsewhere. If that happens then Hart won't be around. Even if BJ is a success he may not be anyway.

I'm with you man. I posted earlier to leave his twitter alone. I scratched my head with dooley, but I gave him a chance and bought in fully. Not gonna make the same mistake again. Signing day will tell us a lot. Dooley had a decent class started. If it tanks it will be telling imo. I am taking the approach of prove it before I am investing in it. What's the ole saying? Fool me once shame on you...fool me twice shame on me.

I really feel for the players. They deserve a coach they could get excited for. Dave Hart let them down imo.

Ran into a Bama fan at my daughter's school. He looked at me and smiled and said "Sorry man, I can't believe how far UT has fallen. Our rivalry just doesn't feel the same anymore".
