I tell ya, I'm torn up. I want to support my Vols, but I just don't know. It's that gut punch you get when someone you trust (the AD) totally screws you over. I don't blame Jones. Heck, I'd take a job where they doubled my money with a 6 yr contract. I love my school, and I love my team, but what's a fan to do here? Blindly keep propping up the people responsible for this debacle? Protest? Nothing?

I try to look at folks like Miles, Meyer, and (at one point) Saban for comfort, who any realistic fan would have speculated to be out of their league when they joined the SEC. But for every one of those, there's a Shula, Franchione, Zook, etc., and whole lot more like them.

I really hope Jones is a star, but it will takes YEARS for him to get the recruits in here to become one (which is what sets him apart from the likes of Miles and Meyer. They started with top notch recruits left by their predecessors). Until then, we will continue to be a .500 team, and everyone will be expected to just deal with it. I'm sorry, but I just can't deal with it anymore.

Here's hoping there's a snag between now and 2:30...and that's no offense to Butch Jones.

The administration is a damn joke, as is jones. Please don't be treated like dumb sheep that will show up regardless. Make them respect us as fans! We deserve a program that competes nationally. That ideology doesn't make me a bad fan, nor does it damn those who share this belief. This was such an important decision for tennessee, we choked. If you support poor choices made by the athletic department, it illustrates to them that those actions are acceptable. The only way to voice your dissatisfaction for the direction the program has taken is to not spend your hard earned dollars. It's that simple, you can still love the vols, without financially supporting less than mediocrity.


Don't buy anything ut!!!

I am interested in how Gruden will act on MNF when he has to talk about A. Foster. I wonder if he will get all excited like he usually does when talking about former Vols?

Here to eat crow, I was as "ALL In" as anyone. As for all the pro Gruden info here, I appreciate all the info the OG's and others gave.

Everyone who clicked the thread has their reasons. What were mine? A complete lack of faith that this UT Admin, led by Cheek , care about football ENOUGH. I wanted to believe that the money folks had had enough of LOSING. I wanted to believe they'd had enough of the loser mentality the players would show on the field, many times across the last three years. I hoped that the MONEY had grown tired of seeing mediocre recruiting classes and the obvious lack of speed against the top tier SEC teams.

In short, HOPE. This thread gave me hope.

Anyway, I'd like to thank all those who went out on a limb and posted info. I'm sure it will come out that much of it was right.

10 AM - 10 PM yesterday, that's how long the negotiation with Butch Jones went on. At 5:15 AM Jones called Babcock and told his AD that he HAD to take the UT job. Before yesterday, there had been no contact with Jones. Look forward to the presser where Hart says that Jones was his guy from the start.

IMO, trashing the OG's is childish, just as childish as hanging on their every post, wasting hours of your life and believing their BS in the first place. If you had listened to the actual people involved in the process, Gruden, his agent, Hart, etc. instead of posters who have proven in the past to be rumor mongers, you would not be upset about the outcome. Just put all of them on ignore, and you will never feel misled or lied to by them again. Simple.

Lex - There were only three parties to this: (1) AD (2) Boosters and (3) Gruden. Someone backed out or got cold feet. Maybe more than group, maybe all three, or maybe fractured combinations of the three. Gruden obviously was warm to the idea, or we wouldn't have made it that far, and he wouldn't have gone so far as to start assembling a staff, which has been part of the public record for a while now.

Any thoughts? I really have no idea, because I have heard multiple things but none from any close to the action that I really trust.

Wow, how old are you?

A fraud is someone who deliberately spreads misinformation, knowing at the time that it was false.

IMO, none of the OG's here were frauds, and furthermore, I think their sources believed what they were telling them, too.

Maybe the sources lied to the OG's; maybe the sources were lied to and passed it on in good faith; maybe it really was happening but the wheels came off.

Critical thinking: get some. It's a very useful skill.

That's exactly right GmanTN. I will vouch for that 100%. You would not believe the confusion that exists in my circle of acquaintances right now who were also privy to such things.

So this is how it ends. In a train wreck. Well it was a fun ride guys. I have to reevaluate where my ticket money goes soon.

The difference is that most in the media admitted they had no clue who would be hired. They just said it definitely wasnt Gruden (that was right).

Hyams never said Strong was going to be our coach. He said Strong was the leading candidate (again, he was right)
