Official Mike Gundy Thread I

I'm not advocating for Petrino. I'm just saying the guy we hire is not going to be a proven SEC coach. So we need to be ready for that. Lets just hope he is a proven HC, and hope it carrys over to the SEC.

All I can say is ghey better go after a proven coach that has won and can put together a good coaching staff. if they hire another mediocre coach it will be bad news.

If Hart thinks Gundy + Chaney > SAL.... he is in for a nightmare.... no matter who your HC + OC is, we cant score more than what Sal leaks!

Who is it exactly that would satisfy everyone? I keep hearing that each coach in play wouldn't make it in the sec. So why even bother firing Dooley if nobody will be happy with a proven coach like Gundy or Fisher? I'm starting to believe that maybe nobody really wants to take on the disaster that is our football program. Or maybe I'm just listening to a bunch of pansies that would find a way to complain if we were 11-1 this year

Would be a good coach for us. I like Fedora. Someone who would make a good coach (not mentioned, considered, experienced, or even a prospect) would be Ron Jawworski. The brains behind ESPN's analytical team. Seems to be incredibly knowledgeable of offenses and dissecting defences. Young men would follow him. Just saying. Keep shorts on.

:banghead2:

Remember the days when our coaching lists were made up of college head coaches? Now it's apparently between Gruden, Jaworski, Cowher and Charles Barkley.

So now that Mike Gundy is possibly in play I was wondering...

1.) He's been around about 8 years, his teams have been pretty good offensively but no one has really thought of OSU as a national powerhouse year in year out. What resources are available to HC at UT that OSU doesn't have to become a contender? OSU has good facilities, fertile recruiting grounds close by and booster money.

2.) His defenses have been terrible, only once ranked better than 82nd nationally. How's a Gundy coached team going to hold up against SEC offenses?

Another reason I believe it's going to be Jimbo Fisher. My choice is Gary Patterson but it ain't gonna happen. I'll take Fisher if Hart's ready to bet his career on him.

I think he is a good coach. Will he be able to recruit well in the South though? I hope he is not just taking the interview as leverage to get more of what he wants from Ok. St. At this point I would feel good about it if we could get him.

OSU is in a terrible recruiting situation. They are the little brother in-state, are less attractive to Texas recruits than OU, UT, or aTm, and Kansas is a talent poor state, and much of that talent goes to K-State.

OSU Recruiting rankings:
2012 - not Top 25
2011 - 23
2010 - not Top 25
2009 - not Top 25
2008 - not Top 25

I would say that Gundy does great with what he has; give him perennial Top 25 classes, and he will be even better.

Much easier to focus on offense when your team is outmanned from a talent perspective. Again, give him talent and a good defensive coordinator, and the defense will improve. He is a driven competitor and a proven winner; he would be a pretty good hire.

I don't see Gundy leaving his alma mater. Imagine if Phil in his best days was entertaining going to coach at Oklahoma. Just wouldn't happen without the AD pushing him out the door. So unless Gundy is getting pushed out, he isn't leaving.

My guess is it is Fisher or Strong. I worry about Fisher just looking for a raise and assurances from FSU. At least will be decided by Friday. I wish they would have talked to Jack Del Rio and Jim Leavitt. Both would do well here and have accolades.

Jim has coached well at USF. Knows Florida, has coached LBs under Harbaugh including 2 all pros and the number 1 rush defense in the NFL. he was kicked out for political reasons in USF and look at them now. He could leave the UT offense in place and would definitely have a top 10 Defense within 2 years.

I do like the Charlie Strong hire a lot. Will recruit Florida and Memphis well. Pittman and Graham stay on staff. Definite upgrade to the defense. I think would definitely win big here.

Don't like the Fisher hire. Mainly because he has the top talent in the ACC and they don't play like it. Should have never lost to NC state. Also, equal or better talent this year than UF and lost exactly the same way we did. I want a coach that can win games sometimes when he has equal or less talent and not lose games to far less talented teams. fisher doesn't fit this model.

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!! This guy doesn't get it!!! Defense is NOT part of his philosophy!! He would fail worse than Dooley or Chizik in the SEC. HELL NO!!!!

Didn't we just fire a coach because his teams couldn't score enough to account for his lack of ANY defense?? Geez people!!!!

Lol hard to be worse than those two coaches.

boone pickens is not going to let gundy leave osu--he will pay big money to keep him.
