Official Screw Your Cable Company Thread

I have never had anything ever other than Comcast. Sick of their customer service and raising prices...so I made the switch last Monday. Switched to ATT Uverse and got a great price price for a year locked in......and won't have to worry about the SEC channel. After a year.....I hope I like it so much I will keep it. But if they play the games that Comcast does....then I can go back to Comcast at an introductory price and I'm sure they will have SEC them too.

don't worry about uverse and their service I have had them for 3 years and had no complaints

Several people have asked about WatchESPN, and I haven't seen it answered yet.

SECN will be available on WatchESPN, but similarly to their other networks, you will have to have a cable or other subscription package that includes the channel to view it.

No worries, though. No doubt every major carrier will pick this up by football season.

I switched from Comcast to EPBFi about a year ago and let me tell you I am very happy that I did. Much better service, blazing fast internet, better content packages, and very competitive price wise. Plus it's nice having my electric, internet, and channel package all rolled into one bill.

Do you Dish users have DIsh internet service also ? If so how is it ? If I switch to Dish I might as well get both -- like now with Comcrook

Does Dish offer internet service?

I am with Direct and bundled my internet through them with AT&T Uverse.

you don't want satellite internet... the only thing its good for is for people who have no other choice,or dial-up...

They have a bundle package, but they aren't the actual provider of the internet, though you get the package like they are. I believe it was windstream internet. I am not currently using them anymore for internet. It may be different in other areas and or have changed all together now

What is AT T Universe really like for someone who has it now? I have Charter and past bad experiences with AT and T so not sure about changing but it is available in my area and if no SEC Network, I will have to give it a try if Charter will not pick it up.

Yes, You can get bundles with Dish, but it's mostly for satellite internet. We love Dish and we just do cable internet through Comcast (hate that company). But if you're a Verizon customer, you can go through Verizon to get a much better rate on your Comcast rate. We pay less with both than we did with a bundled cable company. I imagine Dish and Direct offer similar options.

As others have posted, satellite internet is really only good for those that have no other options. My Dad has Dish internet, because that is the only option he has. Even bundled with his Dish TV it is rather expensive. He lives in a dead zone out in the country around Hartsville. No cable, cell signal or DSL.

I have no cable service where I live and have had Dish TV for ~6 years and prefer it over Direct. Better service and price (IMO). Windstream bought out our local phone company and I get my internet (DSL) and Dish through them. As I understand it Windstream is one of the largest 3rd party providers of Dish. They told me if I ever have any problems with the Dish people, to let them know and they will handle.

No cable company has signed up for the SEC network other than U-Verse.

For what's it worth I'm going to sign up for Dish network or U-Verse on July 30 if Charter doesn't sign up for the SEC network by then. I get both so my options are wide open.
Well charter has sold the state to comcast. The only places charter has in Tennessee will be tri cites and Chattanooga. Starting in a few weeks. You will get a email soon about it.

I think the issue now might be that they're lower tier/level on the totem pole...so it could possibly take longer before their acquiring the network plays out (ESPN may every well be trying to play the network towards the primary/larger cable companies first before moving on towards the smaller ones...i.e. they'll get it, but who knows what their timeframe is or where they are on ESPN's list of people to talk to.)

Dish has high speed internet in some areas, but not all areas. They advertise that it is coming to more and more areas in time.

I work for AT&T so I can tell you its basically a broadband driven streaming video service...it goes to the main modem and then wirelessly transmits to your set top boxes at the TV... HD is very clear with Uverse...

I saw an ad for Dish Internet in my area - so I know its available - would rather keep Comcast Internet but they raise the price of if you dont have their crap cable TV with it.
