Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

In his 16th start, Pineiro had his first no decision of the season tonight. Dude is only 6-9 with a freaking 3.39 ERA.

Serious question here, does Joe Thurston do anything well?

I admit I haven't seen the Cards play much this year, when they are not playing the Reds, but I haven't seen him do anything well.

I've figured it out... he's good at booting the ball and throwing it wildly around the infield.

Yet another strong performance by Carpenter. Much like Votto, I guess missing a lot of time is what kept him and his 2.32 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, .190 BAA, 58 Ks, 11 BB in 77.2 innings off the All-Star team.

Rasmus is on fire.... bout time to have him bat after Pujols

say what you want about Thurston, but he and Barden had a great start to the season and kept everyone from panicing when there was no 3rd baseman in sight.. I think we all knew he would come back to Earth, but he did what they needed him to do

Nice to start off the series in Milwaukee with a win over Gallardo.

Rasmus with another homer and double in his 3-5 night.

The Cardinals apparently have very "real" interest in acquiring Roy Halladay, and they're willing to give up their top five minor league prospects to make it happen.

that would be nice... where did u hear that??

dennys reyes just pitched against prince fielder... can anyone name a pitcher vs batter combination with a higher combined weight???

Doesn't really look like it'd be a good idea to pull that off considering all the prospects the Cards would have to give up combined with all of the money they would then have tied up in less than a handful of players, assuming they signed Halladay to a long-term deal when his current contract is up after 2010.

agreed, doesnt seem like something the Cards would normally do

I always assume they're going to lose every time Wellemeyer starts anyway, so I'm not too torn up about it.

he looks like a bird, then as soon as he gives up a few hits or a run, he goes into that "woe is me" posture and looks like he's ready to give up.. i bet the other team just loves that

He hasn't been the same since he hurt his arm last year... he was actually really good for the first couple of months in '08.

Or maybe he just sucks and those couple of months last year were a complete fluke.

With the complete game win today, Pineiro improved to 7-9 and tied Wellemeyer in wins while lowering his ERA to 3.22 compared to Wellemeyer's 5.58. I love baseball.

Don't think Carpenter had his best stuff today... a few hard hit balls off of him, but not a bad game overall. Offense showed up to make it a moot point, anyway. Hopefully Ludwick is getting back to that 2008 form.

Cool article with Musial and Pujols.

Brad Thompson sucks.

Great play by Molina late in the game to pick off Theriot at first. The pitch landed in front of the left-handed batter, Molina picked it, and then flicked it behind the batter and had Theriot out by a mile.

Already knew Wellemeyer sucks as a starter, now we can confirm he sucks out of the pen as well. He threw 12 pitches today, only 2 of them were strikes, and 1 of those was a hit.
