Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

Holliday would be dumb to reject the Cardinals offer of 8-year $128 million (avg. $16 million per year)... which is the most the Cardinals have EVER offered a player (that is, until they give Pujols a new contract extension).

One could argue the Cards would be overpaying for Holliday... but I like it. Securing the 3 and 4 hole spots in the lineup with Pujols and Holliday would be huge.

You can build a Championship-caliber team around that.

:)

All you heard after they traded for Holliday is that there was no a way a team like the Cardinals would be able to sign both Holliday & Pujols long term as well as fielding much of a team around those guys. Certainly looks like the Cards are gonna give it a shot.

Cards fans, to assure modern flow of the team, a thread is setup to talk about your new hitting coach,Mark McGwire.

Jose Canseco is an idiot. I could give two you-know-whats about what he said about McGwire and steroids, but to go on that little pity party rant and imply that he(Jose) has it so bad. "I've gotten so much worse, you were pitied and babied Mark, buy my book". Shut up Jose. You brought this on yourself

Just found this thread.

Haliarious it's still going on for going on 4 years now.

Anyway, die hard fan here to answer the original question.

Projecting the Opening Day Starting Lineup:

2B- Skip Schumaker
SS- Brendan Ryan
1B- Albert Pujols
LF- Matt Holliday
RF- Ryan Ludwick
CF- Colby Rasmus
3B- David Freese
C- Matt Pagnozzi (obviously only if Yadi isn't ready)
P- Chris Carpenter

Can't wait to get this season started!

The rotation is solid, to say the least:

C. Carpenter
A. Wainwright
K. Lohse
B. Penny
J. Garcia

If the bullpen can stay healthy and Franklin can get his confidence back, our Cards won't have any issues with relief pitching.

The bench is a concern, with the exception of F. Lopez. Mather, Craig, and Stavinoha are all unproven, but they all have potential. I'd like to see Daryl Jones get a crack at the big leagues this season.

Absolutely. You're a Cards fan, Vader?
 Check the first post in this monster thread.

I will admit that the last couple of years I have not followed baseball like I used to mainly because I was so busy with work and family.

I am going to try to come back to baseball some this season.
