Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

Craig is probably a better hitter than Adams. I have heard whispers of Adams getting work at second in a "sacrifice D for the bat" move.

Need SS help, too.

That would be a massive sacrifice imo. Adams is 6'3" 230 lbs. He's not agile. Got to see him several games in Memphis last year. I don't see how he could play 2nd. He looks like the typical big slow first baseman. He has the power potential of that also though.

If Kolton Wong proceeds as he has been I think he'll end up being the Cards 2nd baseman of the future. I think he's going to end up in Triple-A Memphis this year, but he's a spring training invitee currently.

I totally agree with this. Adams is an issue. Talented guy but we have no place for him. Our farm system is as solid as I can remember which is a GREAT problem to have. We may very well end up trading some of those young guys for a proven Short stop now that Furcal is having Tommy John. Wong is def the future at 2nd. We look good for years to come barring a rash of major injuries.

Cut to JD Drew sleeping peacefully for the first time in over a decade, knowing at least one Cardinals fan forgives him.

Granted, this is a fanbase that pretty much trashes Albert Pujols.

I don't hate the guy. He's going to do what he feels is in his best interest. He was a great ballplayer for us and I'm grateful he spent much of his career here.

I think what frustrated many Cards fans is his whole career he said how much he loved St Louis, wants a new contract in St Louis, wanted to play his whole career, loved the team/fans, never wanted to leave, ect ect. Then he bounced for the Angels for a little more money than what the Cards were offering. It just came off as two faced.

I think both parties are better off though. As much as I hoped to keep Pujols, I didn't think matching the 254 million would be worth it. That kinda contract would be too much of a burden. He's a great player, but overpaid imo. .285 and 30 hr isn't bad, but that's far from being worth what they're paying him. Pujols is probably better off in the AL where he can DH in a couple years most likely.

Don't listen to them. Had Chipper Jones left Atl for more $ ten years ago there would have been a LOT of Chipper bashing in trailer parks all over Ga. If they're honest they'll admit it.

You seem very sensible about it which is a good thing. A lot of your brethren not so much.. people forget that this is a business. And like you said the AL is the best fit for him, especially in later part of that contract. I still think he has a lot left in the tank. He had great numbers by anyone's (not named Pujols) standards in a down year. But if I am a Card fans (which I would never be) I am glad he didn't sign for that number in the organization I root for.. both sides win.

Beef and deeble are far more sensible about it than most. Just giving you a hard time. Cardinals aren't exactly struggling in his absence.

Actually several TV stations etc did polls during the trade and most fans voted let him leav instead of matching the Angels. At first a lot of fans were upset but it subsided pretty quickly. I have sesason tickets and around a ton of Cards fans and what I heard/saw matched the polls.

When Harper is hitting like 56 bombs in pinstripes at some point I won't exactly be happy about it
