Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

I was suggesting this myself to a friend last Friday. He said Wigginton is a leader is the clubhouse and the Cards like him. New to me, but if that's true I don't see him being moved.

That and he said Wong only plays second unlike Wigginton who can play 1st, 3rd, or even of OF if absolutely needed. I'm not sure how good of a defensive player Wigginton is.

There's a reason they signed him and I don't think it was for his bat. Dude hasn't batted over .250 since 2009.

What that reason is, I'm not sure. We lost Shumaker and Tyler Green but on the infield that covered 2nd and SS backups.

Any indication on how serious the cardinal's interest in Papelbon is? Saw the Boston globe article that indicated the Phillies front office thought the cardinals would be a probable destination. Have not seen anything from the St. Louis side though.

No thanks! Mujica is still rolling!

Rematch series begins tonight against Texas. Nothing will beat that memorable run two years ago.

I still thank Fredi Gonzalez everyday and I do wish that he would receive a ring for his contributions.

If I were a fan of any other team, it would be the Cards. Even spent a few years working summers with the JC Cardinals. May the better team win.

Since we're in a bit of a losing slump.....

Anyone got any trade thoughts? Freese is the name that pops up the most. If they think Wong can come up from Memphis they can move Carp to 3rd. Wong has been playing great so far. Not sure if they think he's ready. If they did trade Freese what would the target be? A shortstop? Pitching?

For the future, we have problems, but good problems. At first I thought this was Beltran's last year in St Louis. Then Taveras would come up next year. But Mozeliak makes it sound like he'd be open to considering keeping Beltran another year or two. If they did, where does Taveras go?

Matt Adams...where does he fit? Craig is at first now, can play outfield, but there's no spot for Craig in the outfield long term. Holiday/Jay/Beltran/Taveras take priority there imo.....unless they wanted to trade Holiday or Jay? Which I think Holiday can veto trades? Or no trade clause? I thought there was something in his contract about that.

Resign Beltran and call up Taveras. Taveras has played in RF and LF. Play him in Jay's spot. Taveras will be ready next season. I'd call up Wong too. Wong has played a little SS in Memphis. I'd much rather have Wong over Kozma. An infield consisting of Freese, Carpenter, Wong, and Adams is very enticing with Craig, Beltran, and Taveras in the outfield.

Holliday?

Wong is a work in progress at SS IMO. Not sure if he has the arm for it. The logjam is definitely a good problem to have, though.
