Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

Chris Carpenter retiring. Thanks for the memories Carp. I'll never forget him out dueling Halladay in game 5 of the 2011 NLDS. That was one pitcher's duel for the ages.

Freese and Salas traded to the Angels.

David Freese Rumors: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

The Angels and Cardinals have officially announced a trade that will send center fielder Peter Bourjos and outfield prospect Randal Grichuk to the Cardinals in exchange for third baseman David Freese and right-hander Fernando Salas.

Doesn't look good for Jay. And what about 3rd? Another trade soon or will someone move over?

Kozma at short is tough to go through again.

MLB network guys earlier today think Cards spend some money on infield. No money for Beltran, Westbrook, or Freese means Cards got a good amount of money sitting there. Especially since we have so many guys cheap right now.

I read the rumor that the Cards will try to snatch Tulowitzki from the Rockies in a trade.

That's what I've read also. I'm just wondering what we'd be willing to give up. I'm betting at least a couple of pitchers to start. Outside of Waino and Wacha I think just about any of them could be trade bait. Not that I like that, but that's what it's sounded like to me so far this year. I don't know what else the Rockies need.

Any chance Tavares gets brought up?

They'll probably give him some time in Memphis coming off foot surgery. He only played 46 games.

With Holliday, Jay, Craig, and now Bourjous there's probably no hurry. From what I read before he just needs to work on defense. If all goes well, maybe bring him up midseason to to get some spot action. Or earlier if there's an injury.

I'm not sure who they plan to give up.

Peralta it is. Good pickup. Will play at SS.

Carp at 3B. Petaluma at SS. Adams at 1B. Not sure about 2B. Probably Wong

With that kind of cash, Beltran is most likely gone.

He was a free agent anyway. They offered him 1 year 14 million not long after the world series but they didn't think he'd take it. He turned them down because he wants more than a 1 year deal. Cards aren't going to do that with taveras needing a spot.

ESPN said the Cards anticipate placing him in high minor league ball.

If true, my guess is Springfield to start maybe?
