Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

Spiezio walked and Pujols GIDP to end the inning.

Utley will get at least one more at bat.

As if there was still any doubt what so ever, Braden Looper once again proves how gallactically worthless he is. Lieberthal with a leadoff single, Nunez sacrifices a pinch runner to second, and that Coste guy doubled home the pinch runner. Rollins follows that up with a single, but he widns up on second advancing on the throw.

Dellucci, 3-4, coming up to bat with two in scoring position and one out. Utley on deck.

9-7 Phills

Victorino promptly triples to right, no doubt an adventure for Encarnacion, two runs score.

11-7 Phillies.

Looper's line: 1/3 of an inning, 3 hits, 3 runs. An ERA of 81 will not help your season ERA, Braden.

Utley reaches on a fielder's choice... that they didn't even get anyone out on. 0-5. Never fear, he'll probably bat again.

C'mon Howard, this game is over, at least hit a homerun for my fantasy team.

Hancock on to pitch for Flores. Flores' line almost as impressive as Looper's. 0 innings pitched, 3 hits, 2 runs.

Sac fly by Burrell, Utley scores.

13-7

Apparently they gave Utley a single on what was first ruled a fielder's choice, according to the gamecast anyway. So, 34 games it is.

There's the Yadi Molina we know. GIDP to end the inning.

13-8 Phillies going to the 9th

Roberson reaches on another error by Rolen, Nunez walked, Rollins hit a three-run homer.

16-8 Phillies

Obviously not wanting Weaver to feel bad about getting shelled to the tune of 7 runs, the bullpen gives up 9 tonight. Ouch.

16-8 Phillies going to the bottom of the 9th... yeah, I think I'll say it's over.

58-48, 6 game losing streak.

Cole Hamels (3-5, 5.71) vs. Jason Marquis (12-8, 5.67) tonight at 7:10CST.

Marquis was on the mound earlier this season and helped end Jimmy Rollins' hit streak at 38. Utley tries to extend his to 35 tonight.

Terrible start for Marquis his last time out... which we can only hope means he'll be good tonight.

Another awe-inspiring performance by Marquis thus far tonight. 8 hits, 5 walks, 4 runs through 5 innings.

Utley extended his hit streak to 35 games in the first inning.

4-1 Phillies with 2 outs in the home half of the 5th.

Rowand doubled off of Looper, stole third, and scored on Bennett's throw that ended up either in deep left or the stands.

5-1 Phillies going to the bottom of the 7th.

They finally pulled Hamel after 7 innings... kid pitched quite a game. Allowed only 2 hits, 2 walks, 1 run, and had 12 Ks. Nice.

Still 5-1 in the top of the 9th, top of the order will bat for the Cards in the bottom half.

The THIRD Cardinals' error of the night leads to another run. Nunez reached on the error, went to third on a hit, scored on a single to the PITCHER. Utley followed that play with an RBI single.

7-1

Howard flies out to finally end the inning.

Flores' 9th inning: 4 hits, 3 runs, 1 earned. Pathetic.

8-1 goin' to the bottom half.

Phillies win 8-1 and sweep.

It's never good when you have as many errors as you do runs and hits combined.

58-49, 7 game losing streak.

Milwaukee comes to St. Louis this weekend.

Doug Davis (6-6, 5.02) vs. Chris Carpenter (10-5, 2.93)

Thank God for Chris Carpenter.

Weeell, they get the bases loaded, pinch hit for Carp, Spiezio gets the count 3-0, and pops up to the shortstop.

Still 4-3 to the 7th.

Cards lose their 8th straight, 4-3.

Not even Carp could save them tonight. He gave up all 4 runs in 6 innings of work.

Second 8 game losing streak in the last 6 weeks.

58-50

Ben Sheets (2-3, 4.58) vs. Anthony Reyes (2-5, 4.56) tonight in St. Louis as the Cards try and make it 9 straight losses. I feel confident they can considering Sheets has been very good in his two starts since returning from the DL.
