Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

Chris Carpenter (10-6, 3.06) vs. Aaron Harang (12-7, 3.53)

Nice pitching matchup tonight.

Or not.

Edmonds hit a grand slam in the first inning.

Rolen left in the 3rd due to an apparent back injury. You knew that was coming, he's been healthy too long now.

Carpenter gave up 6 runs in 7 innings, 3 of which came on solo homeruns by Dunn, Hatteberg, and Encarnacion.

Cards just took the lead back, 7-6, in the 8th, but that should soon change as Randy Flores has been brought in to pitch.

Lord help us, after Flores allowed a leadoff single and got Griffey to fly out, Isringhausen has been brought in and allows another hit. Dunn to the plate.

Izzy walked Aurillia, and gave up the game-winning two run bomb to Ross. Good goin', Izzy.

8-7 Reds win.

Anthony Reyes (3-5, 4.63) vs. Bronson Arroyo (9-7, 3.47) at 11:30AM CST on ESPN today.

After the Reds win today, the Cards' lead in the division will be trimmed down to 1.5 games with no sign of a consistent winning streak in sight.

Cardinals win 6-1 to split the series 2-2.

Reyes pitched 5 innings and got the win despite being pretty shaky. Only allowed two hits, but hit three batters and walked a couple more.

Duncan had 2 solo homers, Edmonds hit a solo shot, and Spiezio hit his third homerun of the series.

62-52

Cardinals lose again, 7-1.

Duke pitched a complete game gem for the most part.

Suppan sucked, 5 runs in 5.1 innings.

Pujols was 4-4 with 3 doubles. Encarnacion drove him in in the first for the Cards' lone run.

62-53

Weaver sucks again. Pirates win 3-2.

Sure, he only allowed 3 runs in 5.1 innings... along with 10 hits and 3 walks. What a hack.

Pujols hit #35, a two run shot, for the Cards' only two runs of the game.

62-54

Jason Marquis (12-10, 5.82) vs. Paul Maholm (4-10, 4.81) today as the Pirates go for the sweep. Considering the Cardinals starting pitcher, I say they get it.

Pirates win 7-0 to complete the sweep.

Marquis wasn't terrible, but bad enough to lose. Only gave up 2 runs in 6 innings.

Wainwright had by far his worst outing of the year in relief of Marquis. Gave up 4 runs in a third of an inning. Ouch.

62-55

Two 8 game losing streaks in the last two months, lost 13 out of the last 16 for the second time in that same time... and still in first.

Thank God for a crappy division. I am not optimistic about the post season.

I like the new avatar, Tiddy.

Giggedy.

The one thing about the postseason, is every team aside from the Mets in the NL is just about as bad off as the Cardinals are right now.

With Mulder, the Cardinals took 2 outta 3 from the Mets earlier in the year.

Then there's the ol "anything can happen in the playoffs" saying.

Aaron Harang (12-7, 3.66) vs. Chris Carpenter (10-6, 3.27) tonight St. Louis in the opener of a three game series.

Cards win the series opener 5-0 behind a gem by Carpenter. Complete game, 4 hit, shutout. Nice.

Belliard had his best game as a Cardinal, went 3-3 with 2 RBI.

Duncan continues hitting well... hit a HR, had 2 RBI as well, and went 3-5.

63-55

Reds take game two of the series 7-2.

Reyes pitched like.. well, Reyes. 5 runs in 3.1 innings.

Sosa gave up 2 solo homers to Griffey and Dunn, but other than that, bullpen did alright.

63-56

Wow tidwell, talk to yourself much? 15 pages of you and you talking about the Cards...impressive.
