Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

Low and away, strike one, low and away, strike two, high and tight, check swing strike three.........
My favorite Dunn sequence is:
1st Pitch: Fastball at the belt down the middle taken for strike one.
2nd Pitch: Fastball at the belt over the outside corner taken for strike two.
3rd Pitch: Curveball that bounces two feet in front of the plate taken for ball one.
4th Pitch: Curveball that bounces seven feet in front of the plate and a foot outside swung on and missed for strike three.

I love it when he sags his head walking back to the dugout.....

"Man, how did I miss that?"
I went to the game Wednesday night. Dunn miraculously reached first, then promptly stood there as a wild pitch went to the screen. He then sulked around for the next two innings. The sad thing is that the Reds have held on to him for so long now that all of his myriad of deficiencies have been exposed and his trade value has been compromised.

Tid, will your guys please hurry up and win two games so I don't feel obligated to watch the Reds every night. I can only take so much of watching Adam Dunn look like an intoxicated teradactyl at the plate.
heh. I don't like their chances tonight with Weaver. Capuano seems to have struggled in the second half, but the Cards have struggled all year against lefties.

I believe Suppan pitches tomorrow and Carpenter on Sunday. even though they have been shaky their last few outings, I'm still glad it'll be those two in hopefully the clinching games.

Those are only the clinching games if Houston finally loses. Would Reyes pitch Monday?

Cards win 10-5... and the Astros finally lose a frickin' game! Division lead back up to 1.5 games.

Pujols hit a three run homer (48) to blow it open at the time. So far in September Pujols is batting .363 with 9 HR and 27 RBI.

Weaver was decent enough.

82-77

Ben Sheets (6-7, 4.05) vs. Jeff Suppan (12-7, 4.18) today at 12:20CST on Fox.

Maybe they'll be on here anyway, nice flipping material during a commercial of the Vols game.

Cardinals win 3-2. Magic number down to 1 with Carpenter on the hill tomorrow.

Spiezio with a clutch three run triple in the 8th inning to win it.

Suppan pitched very well again... nice to see.

Finally found a closer for the meantime in Wainwright.

83-77

Spiezio for MVP... what a clutch hit. Wainwright is tough. Let's hope Houston loses today so Carpenter can rest before the Playoffs.

That'd be nice. I got to thinking about how screwed up their rotation would be for the first series. Reyes and Marquis would be the most rested.

Absolutely.

Gotta win. Don't need that makeup game with Reyes pitching.

Carp has to be better than his last two starts in which he's allowed 12 runs.

Houston lost 3-1 to the Braves.

Cardinals clinch NL Central, earn spot in playoffs.

It's a new season...

Congrats on the division title. Not trying to rain on your parade, but I can't ever remember a team limping down the stretch the way the Cards just did.

Yeah, it was pretty pathetic. They won't win a game in the playoffs if they don't pick up the level of play a GREAT DEAL. It could happen...

No doubt, GA. Thanks to the Braves for helping them along. :)

Cards lose 5-3 despite three solo homers in the 9th, including Pujols' 49th. He should get the MVP since they made the playoffs.

Reyes started today on short rest and gave up 4 runs in .2 of an inning. Saving Carpenter for the playoffs, good. Not that he's been good lately anyway, but none of them have.

83-78 final regular season record.

Looks like they are playing the San Diego Padres, starting this Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 3:00 central time on ESPN.

Carpenter vs. Peavy

They've played pretty well against NL West teams this year, so we'll see. Carp MUST pitch better than he has of late.

I know the Dodgers were 0-7 this year against the Cardinals... but why would they tank the last game to face THE best team in the NL as some of the experts are saying? I know you've got a better shot against a better team in a shorter series, and the Mets' pitching isn't very imposing... but, c'mon.

I think losing a division title by getting swept at home by Kansas City qualifies as pretty bad.
