Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

Maybe. I can't think of anyone else in the NL having a banner year as far as pitchers go.

Jeff Weaver (3-4, 5.48) vs. Ben Sheets (5-6, 4.08) tonight in game two.

Cards win 12-2.

6 run 7th inning. Nice.

Weaver with an actual good start! 2 runs over 6 innings.

Pujols 2-5 with 2 RBI (128).

Miles went off... 4-6 with 3 RBI. Probably just equalled his hit and RBI totals from July and August tonight.

80-69

Izzy officially out for the year with his hip surgery.Jeff Suppan (12-7, 4.23) vs. Carlos Villanueva (1-1, 4.05) tonight in the series finale with the Brewers.

Cards lose 1-0.
Jenkins hit a walk-ff homer in the 9th for the Brewers.
Suppan went 7 scoreless. Another great outting for him. He might get his ERA under 4 before the playoffs if he keeps this up.

Chris Carpenter (15-6, 2.79) vs. Andy Pettitte (13-13, 4.37) tonight as the Cards open a four game series with the 'Stros.

Houston wins game one 6-5.

Carpenter pitched a complete game and gave up 6 earned. I'd rather lose with him than any of the bums in the bullpen I guess.

Pujols 1-3 with an RBI (129).

80-71

Cardinals lose 6-5 again.

Leading 5-2 going into the 8th, the bullpen couldn't hold it. Wainwright gave up 2 in the 8th and Looper gave up the 2 winning runs in the 9th.

Marquis didn't start for whatever reason. Some guy named Narveson did instead, and he didn't do too bad. No worse than Marquis would've done anyway.

Eckstein returned to the lineup and went 3-5 with a HR, one of those 275 foot specials to left field in Houston.

80-72

Whattayaknow, Cardinals blow the game in the 9th again.

Houston wins 7-4 with a 3 run homer by Scott in the 9th after the Cards had tied it in the top half.

Houston has went from 7.5 to 4.5 games behind the Cardinals for the division lead in the last 3 days. I believe the Cardinals have now lost something like 7 out of their last 8. Nice time to hit another cold streak.

80-73

Houston completes the four game sweep with a 7-3 victory in Roger Clemen's 16th last start ever.

Astros now only 3.5 games behind the Cards with a week left.

Hey St. Louis, how about winning a game again this year?

80-74

This is getting a bit ridiculous. If they don't start playing ball... they're not going to make the flippin' playoffs. The NL Central is just crazy WEAK.

Yep.

David Wells (0-2, 4.43) vs. Jeff Suppan (12-7, 4.07) tonight.

Suppan needs another good game.

Cardinals lose yet again tonight, 6-5.

6th straight close. Interestingly enough that's the third 6-5 score in that sour streak. Houston won again tonight, their 6th straight, to cut the division lead to 2.5 games.

Suppan finally started pitching like someone named Suppan should... 4 runs in 3.2 innings.

Edmonds however came back and hit a pinch-hit three-run homer.

80-75

Woody Williams (10-5, 3.53) vs. Chris Carpenter (15-7, 2.93) tonight in game two.

Cardinals MUST win tonight.

The collapse continues.

Cards lose their 7th straight (Houston won again) 7-5 to the Padres.

To make matters worse, it was Carpenter who did it. Couldn't hold the 5-2 lead they gave him. Gave up 4 runs in the 7th. There went his shot at back-to-back Cy Young Awards.

7.5 game lead over Houston 6 days ago is now down to 1.5 games with 5 (plus the one with the Giants if necessary) games to play. Unreal.

80-76

This is one of the worst collapses in the history of Major League Baseball. Let's just hope we sneak into the playoffs... somehow.

Chris Young (11-5, 3.55) vs. Anthony Reyes (5-7, 4.92) tonight as the Cards try to snap their third 7+ game losing streak of the season.

They better play ball tonight. San Diego's starter, Chris Young, has been lights out his last few starts.

I'm keeping the scoreboard up. Mike Greenburg mentioned it this morning on Mike & Mike that if Houston wins the NL Central, the Cardinals collapse would be the biggest all-time. Nobody has ever given up that big a lead in the month of September, and the Cards could lose it in just over a week's time.
