Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

Be nice if they both re-signed with the Cards... if they can pitch during the regular season as they did in the playoffs.

If not, Mulder should be coming back full strength, Wainwright will be in the rotation, and Carpenter is coming back. I hope they don't even negotiate with Marquis. So long, and good luck.

Like to get Spiezio back as well.

I don't want to see Marquis back... unless it's for pinch-hitting.

On stlcardinals.com, they say Wainwright's job next season depends on how well Izzy can come back from surgery. If Izzy can pitch well, then Waino's a starter. If not, then he's our closer. C'mon Izzy!

Looking at the available FA pitchers... I hope they can re-sign Suppan and Weaver. No one really jumps out at you other than Zito, and you know where he'll end up.

I'd love for the Cards to pick up either Carlos Lee or Alfonso Soriano to plug in left field or have Soriano play second base if they don't re-sign Belliard. Love the little, scrappy Aaron Miles, but he's a bench/utility guy.

Yeah, but I'd rather have Waino try and pitch 9 innings every 5 days than pitch 1 inning every 2 or 3 days. He was a dominant starting pitcher in AAA Memphis, and I'd like to see him try it at this level.

True, Wainwright will get his chance to start and win games that way. I wouldn't have necessarily been against them stretching him out more and getting two inning saves.

Then again in the playoffs they needed him the next night in most cases so they couldn't do that. Worked out just fine in the end however.

I think the Cards will pick up Jimmy's $10M option. They can buy him out for $3M and then go out and try and replace him with that $7M extra payroll... but I don't think they'd find a capable replacement for that amount.

I look for Jimmy to be back in St. Louis for one more season.

I hope so. Hopefully he can spend the offseason getting healthy. He fell apart in front of our eyes this season, but still came up big in the playoffs.

That and the free agent center field market is lame this year.

Mark Mulder and Jim Edmonds both filed for free agency today. Of course, Jimmy is provisionally filing for free agency. The Cards can still pick up his option.

Word. I forgot to mention that in here.

MVP and Cy Young winners should be announced this week.

I've got Pujols, Jeter, and Santana. I really have no idea who will come up with the NL Cy Young. I guess they could go closer again and give it to Hoffman.

Jimmy is back in St. Louis for the next 2 years. Rumors are that the Cards are closing in on a deal with OF Louis Gonzalez. Walt just loves bring in players who are nearing the end of their careers.

Yep. Hoffman was second.

Webb and Carpenter's numbers were virtually identical... as far as record and ERA anyway. Carp had 180+ Ks compared to 43 walks, but, whatever.
