Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

Not sure who the Kip body double was... but hope they keep running him out there.

Mike Maroth (0-2, 5.75) vs. Tim Hudson (9-5, 3.35) tonight in Atlanta.

Only good thing about the Braves... their games are all on TV here. :rock2:

Mike Maroth's line for the night: 5 innings, 11 hits, 10 runs, 3 walks, 0 Ks. Oof.

Good news: Edmonds is back.

Bad news: Carpenter will have Tommy John surgery and will miss the obligatory year or so.

I missed the 5th and 6th inning and was shocked to hear them say that they left Maroth out there to get knocked around like that. What's the deal?

I'm not sure. Wells pitched 8 innings last night so you'd imagine the bullpen was relatively fresh.

Maroth was apparently as surprised as anyone that he was left in there that long. La Russa went out for a chat some time in the 4th or 5th and Maroth went to hand him the ball only to realize La Russa was out there for a pep talk.

The 4th inning was especially tough. Maroth retired the first two guys in order before the bottom fell out for the 5 runs.

They just said that 9 of the 10 runs came in rallies that started with 2 out and nobody on base.

That laugher is over. 10-1 Braves.

Nothing good to report other than Edmonds' return. Didn't look too rusty with a couple nice plays tonight.

43-49

Cards win 4-2 behind a strong pitching performance (save for a bizarre three pitch sequence in the first inning).

Pujols hit his 21st HR and got the 8th inning rally going with a lead off double.

44-49

Looper and Cate just didn't seem too interested in making outs tonight. They gave up 11 of the 14 runs in 3 innings of work.

14-6 Braves, bottom 7

...and that's the final.

Duncan had a nice night at least. 3-4, HR, double, 3 RBI. He's turning into a really consistent and productive hitter.

44-50

I know they like to work the lefty/righty match-ups, but how can you not have Chris Duncan in the lineup every day? Dude has been the most productive hitter on the team not named Pujols, and actually actually has fairly comparable numbers to AP in about 15 fewer games.

Whew. Franklin living dangerously. 2 more solid innings from him tonight.

2-2 to the 9th.

Solid is not exactly the word I would use for the 8th inning . . . but he got the job done.

LaRussa just got extremely lucky that he got away with leaving Franklin out there to throw all those pitches.

Did you see the games on Thursday and last night? St. Louis pitchers have very low standards to be considered solid this year.

Cards win 7-2 in 10 innings.

Schumaker and Rolen hit HRs in the 10th to go ahead.

Pujols still pluggin' along... 2-3 with HR #22 to tie the game in the 8th.

Dunno how he did it, but Thompson managed to go 6 innings and only give up 2 runs.

Even though he's struggling at the plate lately, Molina had another good night catching and throwing out base runners. Probably got a lucky break on the first one, though.

45-50... 5 under is about as close as they can get to .500... let's see what they do against the Cubs and Brewers this week in St. Louis.

...and on the 3rd one, but who's counting? :p

Cardinals opened a can on the Atlanta bullpen tonight.
