Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

Speaking of bullpens, the Cardinals' pen could look a lot different when the Braves come to St. Louis in late August with Springer and Isringhausen apparently on the trading block if the Cardinals don't make any noise against the division leaders this week.

Cubs win game one 4-3.

Schumaker hit a two run triple and Ludwick drove in an unearned run on the 9th for the only two runs.

Wells wasn't awful for the second straight start. Woo.

Hey tidwell is Jose cappellen any good we picked him up off of you this year? I have only see him pitch few innings i was wondering if he was any good or not! And how has maroth been working for you. Maroth is a solid starter but really streaky

I have no idea about Cappellen. I don't pay as much attention to the minor leagues as I should, only checking the stats every now and then.

Save for his first start against the Mets, Maroth has been atrocious... but at least he fits in with the the majority of the rotation.

he must be in on of those streaks i was telling you about. He can be a solid pitcher

Yeah, I was excited about his arrival. Probably more so because it would give me a chance to see someone else give it a shot to top that crap that Kip Wells and Anthony Reyes have called "pitching" this season.

Ted Lilly (10-4, 3.58) vs. Adam Wainwright (9-7, 4.18) tonight at 8:10EST on ESPN2.

Wainwright is 3-0 (5-1 in his last 7) in his last 3 starts with a 1.28 ERA. In two starts against the Cubs this season, he's 0-1 with a 12.10 ERA. Something must change.

Probably, unless miracles happen the rest of the week. However, like Steve Phillips pointed out tonight, they still don't have the starting pitching to sustain a run of success even if they do get hot this week and make up some ground.

Isringhausen and Springer are the two guys I've heard the most about possibly being traded away.

Cubs win 7-1.

Wainwright started out so well tonight. 6 Ks and only 1 hit through the first 3 innings, then...

Encarnacion went 4-4 with the line RBI.

Jason Marquis (7-5, 3.92) vs. Braden Looper (7-8, 5.09) tonight in the series finale. Too bad the only game of this series that was on WGN was last night when it was also on ESPN2. :banghead2:

Cubs are going for their first sweep in St. Louis in 19 years.

Tough game to call. Neither Looper nor Marquis are lights out and it seems the Cards are due a big game at the plate. Could be a slugfest.

Cardinals win 11-1 to salvage a game in the series.

Duncan's grand slam blew it open, and Pujols hit a three run homer in the next inning. AP ended up with 5 RBI on the night.

Rolen also hit a solo HR before the big 5th inning. That's two HRs for him in the last few games, hopefully he's getting his stroke back.

Looper went 7 innings only giving up 5 hits, 2 walks, and 1 run. Unbelievable.

Brewers come to town for 4 games in 3 days this weekend.

Looks like Isringhausen will stay in St. Louis after all.

The Cardinals lack a suitable ninth-inning replacement. Besides, Isringhausen's service time allows him the right to veto any deal.

Isringhausen, who turns 35 on Sept. 7, might require a team to exercise his $8 million option to waive his no-trade protection. Many clubs would balk, given his history of injuries.

Cards also recalled Randy Keisler up from the minors and sent down Brendan Ryan. Need the extra pitchers for this stretch of 4 games in 3 days.
