Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

"As of this moment, my guess is that the Tony La Russa era in St. Louis is over. As for potential replacements, that likely will depend a lot on who takes over as general manager. The names most frequently tossed around are Jose Oquendo and Joe Girardi, but I would definitely also include Jim Riggleman and Terry Pendleton in any discussion."

-Matthew Leach, stlcardinals.com

I wouldn't mind Jose Oquendo or Joe Girardi. It's just weird talking about a replacement for Tony, though. I hope he stays.

I've had my mind set on Girardi since the rumors of LaRussa leaving after this year started.

Oquendo is a guy you always hear about as "manager some day" material. Maybe they'll stay in house.

Suddenly Terry Pendleton's name is coming up everywhere. I've heard him mentioned for St. Louis, KC and Atlanta in 2009.

Old news, but I thought I'd just update the thread. Seems like La Russa has all but announced his decision to return to St. Louis for 2008 and beyond. It will likely be a 3-year deal.

Also, the Cardinals re-signed Russ Springer and Joel Pineiro.

Thanks, vader... I've been able to get on here and read posts more frequently. I won't let the dissappointing football season keep me away.

Reading the article on Yahoo!, it says they interviewed the GMs from Arizona, Cleveland, and Colorado. They must be really high on Mozeliak, considering the success of those three teams with their young talent/farm systems.

well I met Chris Duncan last night in a club VIP... hes HUGE  really nice guy... he was hammered!! makin out and dancin with some ugly chick

John Mo has made a quite a few moves since being the GM, but nothing huge. Picked up Cesar Izturis... which is definitely a downgrade from Eckstein. Matt Clement, recovering from surgery, was picked up. I guess they're hoping for another Chris Carpenter story. They brought back Aaron Miles, with I thought was smart because of his versatility.

All-in-all, the Cardinals haven't really made themselves that much better in the offseason. Unless Pujols, Rolen, Duncan, Molina, and Ankiel can all stay healthy and produce like they're capable, Cards will probably miss a second consecutive postseason.

Lets all hope Mo has one more move up his sleeve.

Vader... Tidwell... where are you? Our thread has faded into nothing.
I will confess that my love for baseball is not as intense as it once was. It took a while to get where I am after they canceled the Series in '94. I did not like that at all.

I follow the season and the playoffs, but I do not really keep up with the offseason moves as much.

It is nice to see you around. Tidwell doesn't come around nearly as much lately. :dunno:

I always get excited right before spring training, even though not many improvements have been made to our Cardinals this offseason. Maybe Tiddy will come back around once the games get going.

Ahh. As much as training camp and the first games of September (or August) excites me, nothing gets me going like the days just before Spring Training. Most people are panning the Cards' moves and the team, but I still have hope. And that's all I really need. So here's to a healthy Pujols' elbow, a Glaus resurgence, Colby Rasmus coming up and tearing up everything, a dominant Wainright, and nice comebacks for Clement, Mulder, and Kennedy. :good!:

I wrote a lengthy preview of the 2008 Cardinal team at my blog today. I've been a lifelong Cards fan and I'd like to be optimistic about the coming season. However, I don't have a warm fuzzy about our chances this year.

If you're interested in reading, you can do so here.

Ive recently come across a great source of inside info on the Cards so I thought Id share some of it.... Apparently LaRussa has a major ego problem and basically ran off Rolen (as we all know), Edmonds (told him hed be the 5th outfielder at best), and Eckstein (which made many players mad bc Eck thought he had a deal on the table).. Juan Gonzalez did get invited to spring training.. Pujols reported early (when pitchers and catchers reported) and personally brought Juan with him.. Juan will make the team and play RF bc there is no one else.. Ankiel is gonna be a beast in CF.. Miles will play some OF as well.. No one comes close to Chris Duncan in the weight room, not even Albert (which I thought was interesting).. Look for Izturis and LaRussa to not get along (Izturis is known for not getting along well with others).. Also Glaus says he cant hold up past the AllStar break anymore, bc of using steroids (which hes already admitted to)

Nonsense. If the Cards organization felt he couldn't hold up past the All-Star break, do you think they would have traded for him?

Juan will make the team and play RF bc there is no one else.

More nonsense. Ludwick and Schumaker will make the team before Gonzalez does. If Colby Rasmus makes the team, either Ludwick or Schumaker will be sent to triple-A, or perhaps released. Rasmus will play center and Ankiel will play right.

I don't know your "source," but he's a complete idiot.

If you want to read an honest review of the Cards, visit my blog. I inserted a link in my post before d4ster3.

look man dont shoot the messenger... this guy traveled to spring training with the team, works at the ballpark, and talks to the players everyday.. those words came straight from Glaus' mouth... im not sayin hes a bust, im just sayin that he has acknowledged that his body doesnt hold up as well as it did while using roids... Juan will play more than you think.. but since my source is an "idiot" I guess ill keep my info to myself...
