Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

IMO, if the Cards are out of playoff contention by All-Star break (which they very well may be), Pujols should have the reconstructive surgery. That way, he could be getting back to 100 percent for the 2009 season.

Actually, if I was Pujols, I probably would've had the surgery once I noticed the Cardinals weren't making any moves this offseason to improve the team.

Oh well...

Kyle Lohse is a good starter. Top of the line quality. Cards go from 4th to first with this move.

:)

Watch out! Cards may bring John Rocker out of retirement before Opening Day just to seal the deal in the NL Central. From the wise Ricky Bobby-- if you ain't first, you're last.

In the Cards case, they're most likely latter.

It's official-- Lohse is a Cardinal. Here are the SP on the Cards' roster:

Chris Carpenter (DL until after All-Star break at earliest)
Mark Mulder (Should return to rotation sometime in May)
Adam Wainwright (Our young ace)
Matt Clement (Should return to rotation in mid-April)
Joel Pineiro (Could be ready by opening day)
Braden Looper (a converted set-up man)
Kyle Lohse (Who knows?)
Anthony Reyes (Lost 14 games last year)

And then there is always reliability in Brad Thompson and Todd Wellemeyer, haha!

Seriously though, if they were all healthy... you have to admit this rotation would look pretty good:

Chris Carpenter
Mark Mulder
Adam Wainwright
Matt Clement
Joel Pineiro

I know it only spring training but so far Pujols, Schumaker, Ankiel, and Glaus are all batting over .368

and Juan is a .308 for all you naysayers

anyone else going to Opening Day??

I have to admit that I was annoyed that the Redbirds let Rolen and Edmonds get away, and kept LaRussa. I was in Jupiter last year during spring training when LaRussa got the DUI. It appears that the Cardinals have a little offensive firepower this year as compared to last year, so maybe the "pruning away" of our older stars was wiser than I thought, as both Rolen and Edmonds are already having injury problems this year. As far as our pitching staff goes, maybe we can hold it together and win some games with our offense until our pitching stabilizes and becomes healthier. Regardless, we are not picked to be the cream of the crop this year, so maybe we will surprise. Regardless, Go Cardinals!!

So will the game resume tomorrow in the bottom of the 3rd inning with the Cards up 5-1?

It's been a long off-season and I've forgotten how this works.

It's officially a washout. Pujols' HR is gone... along with Yadi and Ankiel's 2-RBIs.

Game will be played in its entireity Tuesday night at 7:15 PM CST.

STL Kyle Lohse (0-0) vs. COL Kip Wells (0-0)

Might be a high-scoring game.

At least we're going against Kip Wells tomorrow. :birgits_giggle:

I hope this is a good thing. However, former Cardinal pitchers tend to dominate in their return to St. Louis. Classic examples are Jason Marquis, Woody Williams, Jeff Suppan, and Matt Morris. Hopefully we won't be able to add Kip Wells to that list.

Well it was a good game for 3 innings... Ankiel and Pujols came out hot.. we had great tickets and now have to give them away for tonights game bc of work :banghead2:

Well, of course it would work out this way. Instead of the offensive outburst we saw from the Cards in the "washout" game yesterday, today their bats weren't as hot... and they lost 2-1 to the Rockies. Yesterday was a sure win... that just upsets me.

Kyle Lohse looked pretty good in 5 shutout innings. They key play of the game was Glaus' throwing error that tied the game up at 1-1. He's no Scott Rolen over there at 3rd base.

Yadi had a solo HR as the only offense for St. Louis.

Record: 0-1

Cards win 8-3.

Wellemeyer (1-0) didn't look that good, but he somehow got the job done.

Here are his stats: 5 IP, 1 ER, 6 K

Ankiel: 3-for-5, HR, 2 R
Ludwick: 3-for-5, 3 RBI
Pujols: 2-for-2, RBI, 3 BB

Record: 1-1

Next game: vs. Rockies tomorrow at 12:15 PM CST

Brad Thompson (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Ubaldo Jimenez (0-0, 0.00 ERA)

Cardinals win 3-0. Brad Thompson (1-0) actually pitched pretty dang good. I can't believe how good our starters have pitched the first 3 games. The real test is for them to be CONSISTENT.

Thompson: 6.2 IP, 2 BB, 6 K; 1-for-3, RBI

Miles: 2-for-5
Pujols: 2-for-4
Ankiel: 1-for-3, RBI
Glaus: 2-for-3, RBI

Record: 2-1

Next game: vs. Nationals (3-0) tomorrow at 7:15 PM CST

Braden Looper (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Odalis Perez (0-0, 1.80 ERA)

Ankiel is starting to practice at 1st base for when Albert goes under the knife... mark it down

I guess that would mean they're planning on calling Colby Rasmus up to play CF if Albert goes down? Not a bad idea, but I would think they would play Duncan at first before Ankiel. Ankiel is a much more valuable asset in the OF.

Cardinals win 5-4. Another solid outing for the Cards starting pitcher. How long can they keep this up? Izzy made it interesting, but ended up striking out the side for his 2nd save of the season.

Looper (1-0): 6 IP, ER, 3 K

Barton: 2-for-4, R
Ankiel: 1-for-4, 2-R HR
Pujols: 1-for-2, 2 BB
Molina: 1-for-3, R, RBI
Izturis: 2-for-3, R

Current record: 3-1
