Yes under achieved. Not only the KY loss but how we played in other games as well. We under achieved in a win against Vandy. We under achieved in games we lost like at Arkansas. If you won't admit that then you're way off your rocker.

Vols were outgunned many times like at Arkansas last year...they played a murderous schedule....had injury problems and no depth...a bunch of true FR playing significant minutes and no SR leadership.. Sounds like a recipe for success doesn't it? Was the name of the school you and your family attended BDA High? Had to have been...

I'll go on record right now and if anyone wants to make a screen shot of this then go ahead, If UT can't beat UF with the team they have this season, they should run Dooley and his staff out of town...Those QB's from UF are terrible but why do I get this feeling that in our traditional form We end up making them look like heisman contenders?

Since the season hasnt started this is impossible to say...who knows how each of these teams will do....there are these things called variables that come into play....

Phil did the same thing he just went about it a little more subtle. Nick Saban doesn't address the media, Spurrier will throw his players under the bus during halftime of a game, Richt is more like Phil.

As far as his timing on addressing the media after the KY loss? his staff was leaving and he knew it before the KY game, I would hope the man was busy trying to get names to go with his new staff and making sure the
recruits the team had been working on we
were still showing interests instead of addressing the media after that
loss.

The above has been the most intelligent comment on the thread. When I became a Vol fan, the coach was named Bowden Wyatt. One thing I've learned is that the HC position on a football team is a temporary job. The HC deserves support during his tenure. But sooner or later Derek Dooley, like all the others before him, will not be our coach. It may be 5 months from now or 30 years. But his is a temporary job. He will eventually leave. What will remain will be Tennessee football.

BTW, as a fan, I have no idea if CDD has rebuilt this UT football team or not. I cannot know this from the hype accorded certain players, even a talented QB who has never once beaten a ranked team. I cannot know this from John Adams' articles, or all the impassioned posts here that begin with the word 'If.."

The only way I will know if the 2012 Vols are a good football team is to look at the scoreboard when the time remaining reads 00:00 in the 2nd half of each game.

just gonna skip over this thread and agree with you. I think vegas setting the line at 7.5 is about right, if the vols win more than that I'll show up for my crow.

If you guys really won't be impressed unless Dooley pulls off 9 or 10 wins with our schedule this year, then you must really think that he's done an unbelievable job recruiting over the last few years, because he sure didn't inherit a 9 or 10 win roster.

Don't try logic. Goobernutz like Beef just hate Dooley, pure and simple. They're not really Tennessee fans. Maybe they once were, but not anymore.

everyone who has spent the last three years in their parents basement playing nothing but the '98 season over and over on the TV.

Beef has to live in his parent's basement, so that all of the calls he makes, trying to get on those radio shows that have him banned, will be for free.

It is the same with every coach we have at Tennessee (expect Pat). Even when Pearl was winning they said all the same bs. I don't post very often for this very reason. I think that it's easier for them to say "well of course I want the vols to win, but coach x isn't good enough at whatever" than to get hyped up and be let down.

Just for the record I am on the hype wagon. I can see the AMAZING job CDD has done. No you say? Think about it this way... If the day CDD was hired I told you that we would have this kind of talent this kind of hype in three years. Would you have taken it? Of course you would have. He gets a B- in my book so far would be an A, but he did lose to KY. Plus even if he dose lose his job he still helped Tn a tremendous amount and has already done what he was hired for, stabilize the program.

Having said all that I will say that imo 8 wins this year is par. I think this crow eating should be above or below 8 wins. 7 is a disappointment 9 is a success ok? I fully believe that we will win more than 8. Less that that and I will eat my crow.

My only problem is that I'm on the fence with 8 wins being the minimum. I think 8 should be expected.

Here are my thoughts:
8 wins with improvement all season (on D and the OL) in addition to being competitive in the second half against the Bamas and UGAs of the world may get it done.

8 wins with more blowouts and second half shutouts are a totally different animal.

On some level, we also have to consider what the make up of the team will be in 2013.

Special teams, the OL and the running game showed no improvement last year. That is part of what dings Dooley's cred.
