Exactly. I can get on both sides of this. The dye has been cast...we'll have more Vol fans than OSU will feel comfortable with.

On the other hand, you point is spot on. We haven't had the success of 90's/early 2000's long enough for us to be spoiled yet. I'm not so sure we'd be so different, if we didn't fire Fulmer in 2008, and had four prior seasons with 6, 4, 4, and 7 losses, and after years of success, again lost to Bama on our way to the playoffs.

This is a hard game for me to pick. Part of me thinks we match up very well w/ OSU and we could win, going away...but on paper, OSU has as much talent as UGA, TX, etc. and hasn't been thru the gauntlet that we have in SEC.

Credit where credit’s due: we’ve had at least 3 Buckeye fans on here who were very polite and respectful: Charlotte, Sinatra, and the other I can’t remember the name. I’m hopeful it will be the same at the game, a few turkeys but mostly positive.

UT played six of the worst seven SEC teams this year, plus Georgia and bama

We didn't exactly have a rough time of things. And our road games were very ...... pedestrian to say the least

I don't count vandy as a road game, cuz they have like 22 total fans

Because of the name? Herbstreit himself stated during a recent game that the top tems in the B1G would be .500 teams in the SEC.

I'll try to be objective here...

I think it's foolish for any playoff team to be looking past a playoff team to the next game. Ridiculously foolish.

That being said, I can see how a program like OSU would be looking past us. They've been a Tier 1 CFB team for a few decades, and as another poster said, this is old hat to them.

And let's be honest, who have we beaten this year that is good? Bama? That's our signature win? Gimme a break.

The one good team we played, UGA, we took an L. And let's not forget how we completely crapped the bed against the Hogs.

When we've been on and clicking, we look like the best team in CFB. When we're off, we get 35 penalties a game and we play like garbage. I'd love to say us being "off" has been the exception this year, but again, let's be honest, we were off a lot more than we care to admit. Just go revisit the game threads if you need a reminder.

Do I think we can win this game? Absolutely. Do I think we will win it? I think it's a coin flip.

All that being said, I do think OSU fans need to STFU. Historically, you've been in a conference with 1-2 tier 1 teams, and the rest are tier 3 teams. Much easier to end up 11-1 or 12-0 every year in that situation. Looking at the past 25 years, the SEC has tier 1 teams (Bama, UGA, LSU, etc), and tier 3 teams (MSU, Vandy, etc), but the difference is the group of tier 2 teams (Auburn, Ole Miss, UF, USCe) you have to make it through. Those are the teams that, on paper, shouldn't be a problem for a tier 1 team, but will bow up and hand them a L, and it happens more often than people realize. To me, that's the real difference in the Big 10 vs the SEC. The Big 10, historically speaking, is a few stars and a ton of scrubs, with no consistent group of dangerous "middle class" teams to deal with.

OSU is one of those blue blood teams that gets a prestige bump to their rankings every year whether they deserve it or not, and they always have the media fawning over them, so I hope we roll in there and beat the brakes off of them.

... however, our coach's seat isn't "heating up!" like an NBA Jam shooting streak (as stated above). Ost fans may think this game is more important to VolNation, but I would bet dollars to doughnuts Ryan Day disagrees. Our Vols have a history of helping coaches cleanout their desks, and Sharpie Face looks like low-hanging fruit.

I think that’s the thing…could say same about OSU. I don’t perceive them to be on same level as the UGA we played against either, so you try and pick this game based upon what’s known. OSU has good defense. Tennessee has probably better defense. Vols have good rushing game…better than OSU, but OSU has the edge in passing game, but questions on OL. Michigan ran the ball on OSU, and we have shown to be vulnerable with QBs who get the ball out quick. If we don’t turn ball over and prevent WR gash plays, I think we advance.

I'm not sure how that would even be measured. Is there a fanbase census I'm not aware of? Where do I find the latest date on fanbase sizes? I do think they are the second largest fanbase on Norris lake.

There was a BS "study" that was written about a few years ago that had Ohio State estimated as having the largest fanbase. It was filled with many red flags, including saying that Tennessee had fewer fans than Stanford and Wisconsin. Alabama was behind Penn State and Oregon. Oklahoma wasn't even on the list. Ohio State fans ran with it.

Yeah, fans are going to fan. It can be fun with all the yada yada but it's beyond silly to think a team that just got kicked in the plums by a team that doesn't even have a vote for top 25, much less be in the top 25, at home, is going to take a win for granted against a 7th ranked SEC team in the playoffs. It's not happening.
