Ohio State President - Boise, TCU not worthy

Boise State played a team that lost to an FCS team, Oregon State, who just isn't that good, and they pick up 10 forfeit wins. Yeah, they really deserve a shot at the national title.
I almost give VA Tech a pass on that game. They're undefeated since and it was 5 days after losing to Boise in a national TV game on a Monday night season opener on a last minute TD drive. They just has nothing in the tank.

Then you know what you have to do...grab your gun and go stand on the runway at the Boise airport to prevent that universe-ending event from taking place.

OSU in 2007 when they played for the NC. The same OSU whose president is saying non-AQ schools shouldn't be allowed to play for the NC because of their weak schedule. Irony, it's everywhere.

I've never said anything about OSU deserving anything. I've said that TCU, Boise St, Utah do not deserve to play in a major bowl game much less a nc game. The fact that nevada is anywhere near the top 25 is an absolute joke. And for the record, if that is true about OSU's sos in 07 then no, they definately did not deserve to play in that game.

I think you meant Virginia Tech.

So no team in the ACC should be allowed to go to a major bowl this year, since Virginia Tech lost to a Div. II school.

Makes sense.

I guess someone should let Auburn know that they have been disqualified since their win over Ole Miss is worthless.

Oh, the non AQ=no good argument. /yawn

Auburn's best win isn't Ole Miss.

And I'm not trying to say Boise sucks, or that no mid-major should ever play for the national title. I'm trying to say that they really haven't accomplished all that much. Maybe they've done all they can, maybe it's not fair, but I'm saying that what they have done doesn't seem like something at least 10 other teams couldn't do this year.

I'm not sure their fans really believed that they did.

Why? BYU essentially stole a national title in the mid-80's. Didn't really end anything.

That's my bottom line: it's not fair. Thus, it isn't sporting. The system should be changed to make the path to a championship clear and attainable for any given team every season. It isn't that way outside of the major conferences, and in Auburn in 2004's case, or any year where the national champion had an equal record with other teams in many other cases.

I know what your argument is, and why you root for Boise. I feel like we've argued about this multiple times even though we're both arguing different things.

There will always be disputes about who gets to go until they create super conferences or a playoff. Neither I expect to see in my lifetime, and i'm 33.

You'll see another major change in the next 10 years. JMO, IMO, IMO OYO, IMO. Ya Know?

I'd love a plus 1, but I don't think I'd like much more. Even an 8 team playoff seems to be too much to me.

I'd like a plus 1 or "final 4" type set up. There would still be controversies, but I think less so. More along the lines of getting left out of the NCAA tournament controversy, which isn't the same as saying the team that got left out had much of a chance at winning the thing.

Agreed. I'd accept the fact that there would still be some controversy over allowing the 8th best team in the country a shot at the title.

The NFL allows the 12th best team a shot at the title. The NCAA allows the 100th best team (or worse) a shot in bball. Just want a playoff and anything that brings it closer to reality is good with me.

There's a reason the regular season in college football is much more intense than the regular season in the NFL and in NCAA basketball. The NFL also has 32 teams and it's much more competitive throughout. It's much harder to look and find the best team after the regular season.

I'm not sure why Boise would want a playoff, to be honest. I personally think they have a better shot waiting for a year like this one and possibly snagging a title than going through a playoff.

You see, this is where I think you are missing the point. If you had ever heard Petersen talk about the NC at all you would realize that BSU doesn't want to snag a title they don't deserve, they want a chance to monkey-stomp everyone.

You guys can claim that's what you want, but play a team like Bama last year and you lose by 30.

Exactly. No team or school is looking to "steal" a championship. They're looking to WIN one fair and square. There are no nefarious parties in this.

Alright, I'm outta here, everyone have a good holiday and if you are mad at BSU then you can cook your by wearing it as a hat ala Mr Bean.

Show me a team anywhere close to as good as that one this year. That Bama team wiped up the floor with most of the SEC and Texas. There's not even one as good as last year's Texas team. That's why there's so much argument this year, nobody's really separated themselves. I'm with Peterson, let em go play and see if they deserve it, there's no other way to settle it.

He speaks truth about Boise and TCU though,,, they play weak sisters week in and out and the occasional almost big game.

I had heard TCU was being romanced by the Big East.

Why don't these BCS A-hole schools put their money where their mouth is and schedule some home and homes with these "inferior" opponents?

This is why I actually hate college football. It is only a step above figure skating and gymnastics. Too subjective and political.
