Are supertankers still being used to store oil for speculators?
If not, there's probably a number of empty ones sitting around.
I believe your first statement is a matter of fact.
Secondly the US should have comandeered all super tankers in our waters, started with the empty ones with the cleanup and off loaded any full one into some facility, including the national reserve asap and used them also until the leak was stopped, which may not be until this fall according to some public statements.
Another point I have heard mentioned is that there supposed to be assests near the deep water horizon to facilitate a burn off in case of a blow out but that requirement was waived in this case.
One thing is overabundantly evident, this has been handled in a very incompetent manner so far.
Would you have expected anything different?
President Barack Obama says his talks with Gulf fishermen and oil spill experts are not an academic exercise. They're "so I know whose ass to kick."
You really think this is about crucifying business? If BP is crucified here, so be it.He can start with himself, BP has been on the job since day 1 unlike he has. I am so sick of him and the left always looking to crucify businesses. He just wants to look like he is mad and is doing something, I am convinced he is thrilled about this leak, so he hopes this disaster will help him further his radical green agenda.
I don't think there's any doubt that BP will be punished, probably severely if that's the strategy Obama is relying on to buoy his handling of the disaster. While I don't have any problem with punishing BP, I'm not convinced everyhting's being done to limit the damage of the spill now. The re-drilling plan seems to do more to protect BP's interests than solve the problem, and no else seems to have been consulted. Of course, I don't understand all of the engineering difficulties, but I tend to be more with Cartervol in that I think some sort of plugging/implosion could work and could end the spill now.
JMO.

As far as I can tell this was an accident, and BP is doing everything they can to stop the leak. They have lost over $75 billion in stock value, they are paying anyone who has a claim and they are paying us back for the clean up. What else do you expect them to do? I am not giving them a complete pass but I am not ready to call for them to go out of business either.
It wasn't intentional, but BP was clearly a lax outfit relative to the rest in the industry.
I don't care if they go out of business, but if they do, it won't be because this administration has it out for them.

This regime has it out for every business, but that's another topic.
If they are such a lax outfit, why did this rig get an award for safety?
