OK so how do we get to bowl from here??

We've lost 9 years in a row,
And that has what bearing on what happens now or going forward? Absolutely none unless the players and coaches let it. If you learn from the past and change... you don't have to repeat it.

only won twice in Gainesville since 1971 iirc. Peyton, the best quarterback in our school's history never beat them when we had championship teams and talent around him. I was half joking about Montana... but I think I'm right

UF played very poorly. Besides that... IMO, Muschamp is a poor HC.

This is one of the reasons I've continued to say that UT cannot have an "average" coach and hope to get back to the top. The history you bring up is really only relevant after divisional play began. Between 72 and 91 UT only played 3 games in G'ville. And.... there is no question that Spurrier almost always outcoached Fulmer in a big way. Even in games where UT probably had the better team, Spurrier intimidated and beat Fulmer... often by big scores.

Fulmer was a pretty good coach in the first half of his career though the SEC was a weaker conference overall. It will take a better coach than Fulmer to get UT back to the top.

We out talented everybody in the SEC....in the 2000s you had to recruit talent and coach them up....serious failure on Fulmer's part...Chavis was a big loss but Monte was a good coach also. Dooley should have done everything in the world to bring Chavis back...but we were not recruiting the talent here to coach them up...

Realistically...it's probably not going to happen. The only team in the SEC that we're better than is Kentucky. Mizzou will show up...just like last year,Auburn is better than us,etc etc..... It's just where we are unless maybe one of the freshmen QBs gets a chance and hopefully show some serious play making ability. Our offense, as it is now reminds me of Dave Clawson's offense years ago.....which was terrible.

HELL no!!! We will NOT beat Mizz and vandy will likely beat us again. Right now only wins the rest of the year are possibly S Alabama and KY. 4-8 is our finish this yr. No bowl. Next yr we will be lucky to go bowling with a 6-6 record IF we get a decent QB!!

Holy crap the sky is falling!!!!!! Have some faith.

They weren't good last year and ARE NOT significantly better this year.

Gross incompetence from the HC and DC gave Mizzou that game last year. It should have been a 30 pt laugher for UT based on talent.

Vandy is still Vandy. Last year was an easy schedule combined with a down UT program... nothing more.

Vandy is not the Vandy of old. They went from winning 2 games a year to a 6 and 9 win season. They've been playing the same teams they've always played. The whole easy schedule thing is BS. They have the best coach they've had since WW2. Are they going to win the SEC east anytime soon, no but going to a bowl game every year is a real possibility now. All that being said, go Vols and hopefully this season gets better.

Oh, you mean the same Vandy that barely beat that powerhouse UMass on Saturday. It the same team that was getting blown out 28-0 at South Carolina before the Gamecocks eased off the throttle and let them back in the game?

I'm not saying Vandy is as easy as win as "the old Vandy".... they're clearly better than they've ever been (which ain't sayin much) and UT pretty much sucks at this point. But don't come on here talking anything remotely close to Vandy smack cause they blow.

You are aware that UMASS has only been at the FBS level for 2 years right? And they've only beaten one FBS opponent (actually just one opponent period) in those two years (Akron).

Defending a team that gets crapped on all the time when they're playing better and winning games they used to lose isn't smack talk. If Umass played Vandy in 2010 they would have won.

Bama struggled with Colorado st, Georgia struggled with North Texas, Oregon st and Kansas st lost to div 2 teams and the list goes on! Winning is winning, if Vandy doesn't make it to a bowl game than yeah they're back to the old Vandy.

2010? They damn near won in 2013.

Vandy won by 17 points! It wasn't a great performance by no means but Vandy was never behind in the game and completely controlled the second half. I watched the entire game.

10-3 late in the third, right. But you are right.... Pick virtually any of the last 100 years and they lose that game. So there's that. Of course, I'm a Vols fan right now so I'll shut up now.

They won 9 damn games last year. So what? They have a QB prob on the field too. The D is not as good as last years. Let's see how the year pans out. Can't give up after 4 freaking games.

Hopefully both teams can go bowling this year! :hi:

Now that the all to predictable meltdown has subsided a bit, just wanted to speculate a little.

We need at least 6 wins to go bowling, correct? I think getting to a bowl, ANY BOWL, would be huge for the team, the staff, and of course recruiting.

So how do we get there?

Assuming we get our third win on saturday, we need at least 3 more.

GA - L
USC - L
AL - L
Mizzou - W
Auburn - L
Vandy - W
KY Jelly - W

If Worley can improve some (PLEASE!) I think we beat KY and Mizzou, the sixth win is tall order though. Auburn and Vandy are home games soooo....??

.

Buy a ticket.

Vols 24 Mizzou 14
Vols 17 Auburn 16
Vols 38 Candy 6
Vols 35 Kentucky 10

7-5

Kick someone's butt in bowl game

8-5

No offense, but I hope the only bowling Vandy does involved a ball with 3 holes and some ugly ass shoes.

Unfortunately, I can't see how UT gets to six wins.... pulling for them 1000% that they do.

:lolabove: It is hard to believe the loser mentality of most of our fan base. I think a group of these negavols posting in this thread have one testicle that they time-share.

There are a hell of lot positives to build on and all the teams we generally play are flawed, but our fanbase is so whipped by the last 5 years they are scared of Vandy at this point.

Vandy has beat us once in the last 5 years (our historic lowpoint) and their fans act like they will never lose to us again. Once! We are still Tennessee last I checked. A time of reckoning will come. I hope some of these "fans" have enough backbone left to crawl back up onto the bandwagon once Butch gets it rolling.

I don't see Missouri being a "winnable" game anymore then Auburn or Vandy. I'll just point out one thing for Missouri--they were doing pretty well prior to changing conferences. The one reason they sucked last year was because their QB and RB (both good players) were banged up. Tennessee, where this program is now we can't take any team for granted except the Austin Peay/South Alabama type opponents.

Missouri is setting 3-0 right now, and after next week against Arkansas State, I would not be at all surprised if they are 4-0. Hardly a force to be reckoned with, but they're not a team I would underestimate. Given the fact that it will be on their home turf, and

depending on how their next two games against Arkansas State and Vandy go, they could well be looking at us for that sixth win.
