One of the Greatest Performances Ever by a Vol?

He obviously comes from a good family. The Knecht's are "Simple Minded" people, according to Jimmy Dykes. I know what he meant but my wife and I looked at each other when we heard that in disbelief.

Jimmy should choose his words better.
I doubt if his intellectual capabilities would allow that.

What----King was caught stealing video equipment from our film room. Everything got swept under the rug because of his talent. There was a set of rules for King and a different set for everyone else on the team.

I won't even mention the crap with the ladies. Dude could definitely hoop though.

Was he stealing equipment or rolling the cart to his room to show his lady friend his highlights as he claimed? What was swept under the rug? It was in the newspapers and on the TV news.

Rather than sweeping it under the rug, I’d say that it was more likely that some redneck po-po was escalating a nothing burger.

I think he is. Love Grant but there's a reason offensively he's basically a spot up shooter in the NBA.

Different skill set from Williams and really Houston as well, so it's hard to compare them directly.

DK is a 3-level scorer and can use either hand going to the rim, which makes him pretty much impossible to guard 1-on-1. He has a good handle, passes well, and can rebound as well. Really, elite defense is the only thing missing from his game at this point, and he's improving there.

The thing you have to love about him is his work ethic - the kid wants to be great, and we're privileged to watch as it happens. Damn shame we only get him for one season.

Regarding where he stands in UT history, really it's Bernard King, and then a group of players of which Knecht is getting to the point of being part of.

He was pulled over for no reason one time and the cops found a marijuana seed in his car. No smokable amount, but a seed. That was in the news. Good ole days of Columbian brown dirt

He's already there in the group behind King and Ellis

Maravich was the best that I saw in person. And I would put King right behind him. For third I’d have to go with Dominique, Barkley, or Shaq.
I know he played just one season so it kind of disqualifies him from "all time SEC", but Anthony Davis led UK to Cal's only national championship. I think Gilgeous-Alexander was on that team too. Chris Jackson was also phenomenal in the SEC. Hard to put a one and done guy on all time team. My all time SEC team would consist of King, Barkley, Shaq, Maravich and Wilkins

I was at UT when Wilkins and Barkley were in the SEC, and saw both. I'd put Dale Ellis up there as maybe the best all-around college player I ever saw day in and day out.

Maybe (probably), but we need to see it for a full season, which I have little doubt we will. Kid is only going to get better, and I can see him mentioned as a lottery pick by next summer.

Without doing a bunch of research to support this position, IIRC Barkley & Shaq were not the same level of outstanding college players that they ended up being in the pros. I recall Shaq not being the best center on their team at LSU as Stanley Roberts (I think that’s his name) was there with Shaq and Roberts seemed like the more polished player when they arrived. Barkley’s Auburn team was loaded with talent such that Barkley didn’t stand out as much, plus he was 40-50 lbs overweight back then. Now Chris Jackson was amazing in my memory

I remember Barkley being a little round, but was a badass nonetheless. I was in college during those years. By their second year, Shaq was far more dominant than Roberts. Their freshman year, Roberts played center and Shaq played out of position at PF. By their 2nd year, Shaq was at C and Roberts at PF. Roberts had a softer touch and was a better shooter than O'Neal and that's it

No question. There have been some real greats, both in the SEC and NBA, but King and Maravich are the two best. 1 and 1A
Austin Carr and Johnny Neumann. Right along with them. Carr was a bad luck case as he played at the same time as Maravich.
