This is absolutely pure speculation.Heup absolutely loves Hendon. For whatever reason he has never liked Banks. There as a confrontation between them, and he only punished one. Hence the fact that the defense didn't show up against SC. They felt like Heup played favorites, and Heup also took away their leader.
Given the rumors around the South Carolina disaster, losing an opportunity to play in the playoffs, the Hooker injury, and Banks not playing in the bowl game and the defense actually showing up, what’s your opinion on Jeremy Banks’ role in the derailment of this year?
I’ll always feel we missed out on something very special that doesn’t come along every day. Missed opportunity.
(PS. I am thrilled and grateful and pleasantly surprised to have had the year we had.)
Every interview done with players about the USCjr game has them stating they went into the game feeling they just had to show up to win. Kind of read their own press and hit overconfident. That is usually a death knell for a team. I don't think JB had anything to do with what happened.
I will accept your explanation if you can provide on single shred of evidence. I am basing my opinion on several interviews and clips from members of the defense that actually played in the game. What are you basing yours on?Really? Sorry can’t let this go. I’m not buying that BS explanation at all.
Bc if what you say Is true then COY Heup and staff are guilty of gross coaching malpractice at such a crucial point in the season with the CFP absolutely on the line. Player apathy or “overconfidence” during game week wouldbe noticeable by the staff in a myriad of ways. And moreover would be called out and FIXED.
If you and others honestly want to believe that Banks’ absence wasn’t the key reason our D went on strike vs SC then you do you.
However, why would Coach Heupel go out of his way in his SC postgame presser to address those players who didn’t make the trip and obliquely suggest they reflect on how their absence cost their teammates? (or something to that effect)
And why do you think coach reached out in the portal to bring in a mature stable 25yo leader at LB to replace Banks? Just bc he was arguably the best available LB? Sure but more important HE FITS THE CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYER CULTURE Heup is building. About as opposite from Banks as you can get.
Sorry not sorry your argument doesn’t pass the sniff test to me![]()

After that fiasco with the law, he really redeemed himself. I think he grew up a lot from that experience.
Last season he couldn't control his energy and got several PFs but was our best player by far on D.
As far as the SCAR, I honestly don't know enough about it to make a determination.
I thought it was a mistake for him to not go bowling. Good luck at the next level.
Final Grade: B+ (not including any possible demerits for SCAR turd laying by defense)

I never said Banks wasn't a "VFL". That being said, the defense sure stepped up in his absence which was a stark contrast to what they did at South Carolina. Makes one wonder..By that logic, I assume you don't see Hyatt as a VFL?
