This is what the 12 team CFP would look like this season. Liberty would be the 12 seed bc they were the highest ranked G5 conference champion. They would face the 5 seed FSU in Tallahassee .

Maybe I'm old fashioned, or the "angry yell at the clouds guy",but couldn't all this be prevented with just putting the 12 best teams in? I'm sure I'll come around to it,but just thinking out loud.

I would love that, but I think people would lose their minds after this year if you kept conference champs out. If Louisville would’ve won this year and they wouldn’t have been invited to the 12 team CFP Phillips would go crazy. I do think there should be stipulations in place that a conference champ would have to be top 15 or something to make it.

FSU won't have a leg to stand on if they chicken out of this game.

It won’t change the fact they were 13-0, won the ACC , and did so with a 2nd and 3rd strong QB , respectively. It changes nothing about the fact they got jobbed. Not to mention players opt at of bowl games and they are different teams anyway. Even if they went and beat UGA, all the critics would do is point to the UGA players who didn’t play, even if FSU had players opt at too. Most bowl games are different teams than what you see regular season.

The best way to prove you were screwed would be to go beat Georgia.
This.

Stop crying. Stop complaining. Stop having your robot governor use his AG to sue for popularity points. And stop playing the victim.

We get it, you got screwed. So instead of whining, go prove the committee wrong by beating the Dawgs into submission. I know I’ll be tomahawk chopping that day!

You can't say that definitively.
Yes, you can.

The top 6 ranked conference champions from the CFP poll are guaranteed a slot. That will always cover the SEC, Big 10, Big 12 and the ACC .... with the last 2 guaranteed slots being among the Mountain West, the Sun Belt, the American Athletic Conference, Conference USA and the MAC.

Yep. They really need to rethink the 12-team format now. It was built based on 5 Power conferences. Now you have 2.5. I’ll give the ACC the .5. Big 12’s best team will be between freaking Kansas State and Oklahoma State. That blows. The Pac 2 obviously can’t get in by playing each other 9 times. The intent of 6 was to let the best G5 team make it but now that’s at least 2 spots going to G5 champs as the 6 highest ranked conference champs are guaranteed a spot. They never wanted 2 G5 teams guaranteed a spot. Back to the drawing board!

It won't get revisited for another 10 years. Get ready for 10 years of controversy and ****... All by design to generate clicks and conversation which equal lots of money.

So next year we will have teams like this filling the 6 guaranteed spots:
Alabama
Michigan
FSU
Kansas State
Toledo
Liberty

Then 6 at large:
Georgia
Texas
LSU
Ohio State
Penn State
Oregon

Kansas State gets a bye as I believe the top 4 conference champs get that and we get 2 G5 teams that will get rocked by 2 true top 6 teams. It’ll be ugly.

Yeah, and in fact it happens that the best 4 teams is plenty enough. 12 is gracious overkill. Nobody ever said "wow, everybody thought this team was #5, but now we suddenly realize they're really the best". After the whole season, you just don't need that much precision at all. One of these days, a 4 seed will win, but it won't be because they really were the #1 seed and nobody knew it. Football is not like that.

Anyway, expect lots and lots of pearl-clutching about which team is #12 and which one is #13. Pretty lame stuff.

We’ve already seen a 4 seed win it all in the current format, twice actually.

I didn’t think the Group of 5 conferences still had any sort of guaranteed spots in the new upcoming setup…do they

There’s not a guarantee specifically stated to be for the G5 conferences but they basically did build in a guarantee because they said the 6 highest ranked conference champs get a spot. So in the past that would be SEC, B10, B12, ACC, P12 and a G5 conference champ, like Liberty this year. Now that the P12 is gone that means 2 G5 champs will make it.

Aren’t they trying to change it from 6 down to 5 following everything that happened with the Pac-12?

That I don’t know. I do think they’ll have to adjust, it’s just a matter of time. It’ll be bad enough that the B12 winner is guaranteed a spot so they definitely will not want 2 G5 teams to make it.

Who cares? I'm sure the motivation level at FSU is hovering somewhere around zero. Frankly I hope they warm up and then get back on the bus.

Do you think FSU is unmotivated to play Georgia with most thinking FSU gets dragged? UGA feels robbed to. FSU better come ready to play because being a quitter as you suggest they should do won't end well and would be a clear indicator the committee was right.

I could have sworn the last word was the conferences involved talking about moving to a 5-7 model rather than a 6-6 model.

FSU has strong feelings about this, but the football program is a business and it is not going to walk away from guaranteed money from a major bowl.
The results of the UGA game will quiet this noise.

CFP's playoff system is completely controlled by committee. Bias is expected and accepted.
It will be this way with 12 teams next year as well. Someone will get hosed every year.
Funny thing is if we were still using BCS rankings it has bama at 3 and FSU at 4 with Texas out. People will still be outraged with 12 teams even though 6-12 will likely get blown out
