Name a team that doesn’t apply to? Just because Oregon made it through unscathed doesn’t mean they played a perfect game every week.Overachieving or not, there are times we could have and should have been better. I'm glad we're playoff bound, but we have a lot of room to improve and that's on the coaches to fix.
Slow starts are frustrating..There were people that really posted “this game is over” after the first play of the Vandy game.
Definitely not necessary to fire anyone when a team wins 10 games and makes the playoffs. But, let's not act like the DC and OC couldn't be improved. Banks is solid. But, Halzle probably needs to go.10 wins and a playoff birth, both are more than was expected in the preseason.
Y’all still wanna fire everyone?
You are correct. He was able to right the ship and it had been a ship treading water for close to 20 years. I was optimistic when he was hired but I never thought he could bring us back as fast as he has.If Heupel quit at the end of the year and left for Oklahoma, he’d be the reincarnation of Doug Dickey (going by how I’ve heard Dickey described as an innovator and a guy who had TN back on track).
Who did UT beat that they "shouldn't" have? They performed about as expected except for Ark.My point is Vegas had us at a lower win number.
We overachieved that number. I trust Vegas to set those numbers far more than I do fans for a number of reasons

IIRC, before the season started (and preseason polls are completely worthless) UT was favored in every game but 3 (OU, Bama, & UGA) BTW, OU's o/u was 7.5 wins. By the time UT played OU, IT was the favorite. That shows you what Vegas thought of OU and they didn't hit their win total.
Why is that a weird term? I'm pretty sure UT was favored in 10 out 12 games. So UT overachieved by 1 game according to Vegas...which was the OU game that had them favored preseason. By the time the game came around UT was favored.Shouldn’t have is a weird term. Teams lose games they should win constantly. But Bama is the obvious one we “shouldn’t have” given we were the under dog and have a lower team composite talent rating
The Vegas o/u was 8.5. We overachieved that.

When your team is good, you're expected to win most, if not all, of your games. A loss or 2 swings it at that level.
As I said before, preseason rankings are worthless. These things are fluid. As game time rolled around, UT was favored in 10 of those games. They're in the playoffs and most likely hosting a game. Nothing to complain about. We were not favored in 10 games in the preseason.
Weird to say “we overachieved by 1 game” as if that’s a a bad game. When you go 10-2 you can’t do a heck of a lot better than one game

IMO, and the betting lines, UT performed as expected.
GT beating FSU was huge in week zero....no one mentions that as a big win for GT on 12/1. Look at the preseason top 10. The pollsters got 6 correct.
This is why I tend to hang out in the PF. Somehow the posters are FAR more reasonable over there.
We just clinched a spot in the playoffs. We beat Bama, Florida. And we were competitive against GA, in GA. After that tough loss, We needed to blow out UTEP and beat a pretty decent Vandy team to clinch a spot. We did that!! Finished up 10-2 in the toughest conference in the country.
And STILL people be like “Yeah but…if we had a better coach and a better QB we would be undefeated! I expect excellence dammit”.
I agree 8188. Great season!!! I’m celebrating tonight. It’s great to be a Tennessee Vol! Thank you Coach Heup!!! We’ve waited a long time for this.
Absolutely!4 years ago, we would have dreamed to have an offense, defense, and record like this. Let’s enjoy the ride! Heupel has done an incredible job!
That's where a home game would be a huge boost. Any environment we go into our O Line has shown they will move early but a raucous crowd we will kill at least 2 drives a game from getting behind the sticks from presnap penalties.I heard during the game we're 122nd in FBS in penalties. Makes it hard to imagine us getting far in the playoffs. But hey it was a great regular season for sure!
Who wanted to fire "everyone"? That said, I don't think they "overachieved". Nico wasn't great and at times wasn't even very good. Nowhere near the Hooker level the Vols needed to overachieve. The D performed pretty much in alignment with their level of talent and depth in the front 7. Really good for the most part. The secondary overachieved according to expectations but probably not according to talent. There are some really talented guys in UT's secondary. The run game overachieved.10 wins and a playoff birth, both are more than was expected in the preseason.

Preseason is what you base over/under achieving on. To consistently increase expectations every time your team wins is an absurd exercise that is only capable of ending in disappointment.
Unlikely to see SEC officials at least in the 1st game. Not sure if it is intentional bias or something subconscious but I don't believe that penalty on #19 gets called on any other SEC team. I am certain that the Vols routinely get called for holds that are standard fare for UGA.I heard during the game we're 122nd in FBS in penalties. Makes it hard to imagine us getting far in the playoffs. But hey it was a great regular season for sure!
