Overrated Bands

Wait a minute, you are judging where a band is on the overrated scale based on your playlist preferences?:eek:lol:

You do realize that the only reason anyone knows Bob Marley is potheads think they learn something about themselves by listening to something that is "deep" or "has meaning". Yet you overlook the fact that Reggae all sounds the same.[/QUOTE]

You sir have not listened to alot of reggae then. How many reggae bands do you know?

There is alot of music that sounds the same....top 40 rock, most of country, jazz, etc

I hate U2, Kiss, etc but its really hard to call a band overrated when they have had international success like those bands have. I hate Nickleback with every fiber in my body but yet they can have a worldwide tour and sell out every show. That can be said for many bands. It all just comes down to personal taste.

personally, i like nirvana but i do think they are overrated. cobain was a marginal guitar player, a marginal lyracist, and a marginal singer at best. they came out at a time when music had hit an all time low imo. him committing suicide sort of immortalized him and the band. their music was on a steady decline ever since nevermind (which is a classic) came out.

i will say that nirvana opened my mind to a much broader variety of music, but they had waaay more mediocre songs than good songs.

Sounds like most people in here are just throwing out bands that they dont like or dont fit their personal taste. This is suppose to be most overrated bands. Only strong objection I have is Nirvana. Kurt Cobain was a excellent lyracist. They influenced so many bands that we hear today. Top 10 Most Influential Rock Bands - Essential Rock Bands - About.com

Come on now. Anyone can find a link that backs up there opinion. Check this one out.

Nirvana was influential but influenced junk like Creed and Staind.

I always thought the drummer, can't remember his name, who went on to lead Foo Fighters was a much better all around musician and vocalist. I know others will disagree but he is one of my favorites.

Edit: I agree that music in that era had become stagnant, it was ripe for a new sound and Nirvana led the way but out of the big three grunge bands Nirvana was my least favorite.

I've listened to a lot of reggae, it all has the same beat, jive and feel.

Sorry to come across as sexist but your name excludes you from being rational in this discussion. Every girl I know irrationally loves Journey. Add alcohol to the equation and things get really ugly.

floyd? boston? the boss? journey? I can't believe the blasphemy in this thread!!!!! :)

Truth be told, as somebody who loves 60's-70's-80's music, I tend to think of the music from the 50's as overrated .. I guess it's an experiential thing that makes the music you listen to growing up so special ......

You are so right. I didn't even look at the name.

You can both kiss my lily, white....a.... album!

:moon2:

Just because I am a female doesn't mean that I don't have good taste in music and just because I happen to like Journey doesn't make me irrational, k?!

I love Floyd, I know others don't but their arrangements are just sort of genius IMO. The vocals are probably the weakest link but as far as pure musicianship and arrangement go there aren't a whole heck of a lot better out there.
