Pac 10 better than the SEC???

I agree, all in all, it has been average...but when there are good ones, they don't even get the first look? I realize things may be different now, but I was more referring to back then.

I was including surrounding states. Though obviously you guys have a lot of competition. Oklahoma has texas nearby and since A&M is down they get a lot of good talent from there. Washington benefited from SC being down during the early 90s.
Oklahoma has been getting great talent out of Texas for the last 50 years. Texas A&M's fortunes are totally irrelevant to that.

That's being kind.

You are right. I did not want to hurt any feelings and was also taking into account Memphis and a few schools in the Nashville area. But overall it is dreadful. I grew up watching HS ball in SC and GA. Bad teams there would demolish good teams from TN.

Exactly... And a lot of the Tennessee HS talent that is good tends to come from the western part of the state, so they go to Memphis, MSU, Ole Miss and Bama as much as they go to Tennessee.

A LOT of people from my home area (Henry Co.) were Bama, Auburn, and Ole Miss fans. I do believe the tide (no pun intended) has turned, though, as whenever I go home, I see tons more orange than I used to...for what it's worth.

I believe too much soccer, indian leg wrestling, and underwater basket weaving has taken over because parents don't want their babies to get hurt. Makes me sick. We used to live and breathe football...period. It's just not so anymore. The soccer phenomenon started oozing in when I was a senior....now....:yuck:

well A&M was taking that talent when oklahoma was down in the 90s. Maybe A&M was good BECAUSE oklahoma was down. :dunno:

A little bit. If you look at the number of NFL players OU produced in the '90s, it's obvious that talent was never really the problem.

I'd say that's true nowadays. I know in the past as in pre-1950's there would be some interstate matchups between various states. Tennessee schools apparently were capable of thrashing Florida and Georgia schools back then. I guess the larger population of those states now along with superior football programs for younger kids give those states an edge.

Speaking of history...heres a funny stat for VOL fans:

AT one time, UTs record against VANDERBILT was 0-12-1. SOmebody told me the reason General Neyland was hired was just so he would beat VANDERBILT.

Uh, yeah. Even me, Mr. West Coast knew that. Hard to believe, but Vanderbilt was, at one point, a national football power, and a highly regarded academic institution.

There is a reason soccer is the world's most popular sport...

But it is the most popular sport in South America, maybe every country there, Every country in North America but the US and Canada, pretty much all the European countries, and probably the most popular sport in Asia, and in Africa.

It may be the most popular sport in Africa, but probably not Asia. I'd say baseball and basketball are tops in Asia. Football is catching on, too.
