Pastor Jones has new gimmick

you're arguing that some effigies are better than others? The lengths to which you go to drive race to the forefront in everything astounds me.

You might actually find that people are dramatically more tolerant than you assume if you'll stop shrieking about the problem so loudly and so often.

I agree he should get a call from the SS regardless of the race of the person hanged.

I am just disturbed that people would rather dodge the race issue here and talk about political correctness as though its okay to do this. And I don;t mean criminally.

I mean that society, even opponents of Obama, ought to be outraged by the obvious racial overtones here.

No, it should not be done for any POTUS.

It is worse when done to a black one.

Why should he receive a call from the Secret Service? He has every right to be an ass and if that is manifested in hanging an effigy, so be it.

No, that is false. Plenty of criticism of Obama is justified and plenty is correct. I suppose that is part of the reason that is so appalling to me that hanging him in effigy is not being singled out as reprehensible "criticism" or "comment."

Oh the horror!

Let's be clear: Hanging any person in effigy is wrong. Hanging any POTUS in effigy is wrong, regardless of race. Hanging a black POTUS in effigy is even worse.

They have an obligation to inquire and make sure there is no real threat there. They aren't going to prosecute him just for doing it. I think they investigate every threat against a POTUS and its a matter of simply going through the motions in a situation like this.

I guess I fail to see why any of it is wrong.

And, if Jones chooses not to cooperate with the "investigation"?

Yes he is.

Men like this guy give Christanity a terrible name.

The pastor is in a box this year.
He supports Obama, who supports Gay marriage
or
He supports Romney, the mormon, which Christians consider a cult.

I don't consider Mormons as a cult. Why would they be a cult?

I was hung in effigy once many years ago, our HS rival had me and the only black guy on our team hung outside their stadium for homecoming. We both thought it was pretty dang funny.

Of course that was in the 80's when people had a sense of humor.

I don't know. I assume that might ratchet up concerns that there is something real to the threat and they would make a more formal inquiry.

Wait; so, you do not think he is doing anything illegal by hanging an effigy of Obama. Yet, you think it is okay for the SS to make a "formal inquiry" (whatever that means) if he refuses to speak to them or cooperate with their "informal" investigation?

I think that the SS probably has in place a protocol to investigate any public display of harm to the POTUS. If Romney wins and some left outfit does a firing squad of him I'd condemn it readily.

I missed all your outrage while Bush was being hailed as Hitler.

Well, first, I am sure I said several times that any such comparison was foolish, for a number if reasons. Second, can't really compare to mock executions, especially one that harkens back to a time of racist vigilantes.

This is just my opinion and in no way should be taken as an insult to anyone on this bored but i just wonder how a symbolization of one man dying by way of a noose is any worse than another regardless of race or gender. Do you think God looks down and says o my it is so much more of a sin to hang a black man symbolically than a white man. Is it worse for a black man to die than a white or vise versa? To me racism thrives because few cant let go of our embarrising past white or black. I try to be as good as a person as i can and see a man for what he is and not for what he looks like. As for this so called pastor he needs to read his Bible a little more.

But not nearly to the extent you are here because this display involves a rope and a black man. Correct?

I don't consider Mormons as a cult. Why would they be a cult?

Listed are some of their beliefs.

* God used to be a man on another planet, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 321; Joseph Smith,*Times and Seasons, vol. 5, p. 613-614; Orson Pratt,*Journal of Discourses, vol. 2, p. 345; Brigham Young,*Journal of Discourses, vol. 7, p. 333).
* God resides near a star called Kolob, (Pearl of Great Price, p. 34-35;*Mormon Doctrine, p. 428).
* "The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s..." (Doctrines and Covenants 130:22).
* God is in the form of a man, (Joseph Smith,*Journal of Discourses, vol. 6, p. 3).
* "God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens!!! . . . We have imagined that God was God from all eternity. I will refute that idea and take away the veil, so that you may see," (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 345).
* After you become a good Mormon, you have the potential of becoming a god, (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 345-347, 354.)
* There is a mother god, (Articles of Faith, by James Talmage, p. 443).
* God is married to his goddess wife and has spirit children, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 516).
* The trinity is three separate Gods: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. "That these three are separate individuals, physically distinct from each other, is demonstrated by the accepted records of divine dealings with man," (Articles of Faith, by James Talmage, p. 35.).
In contrast to these teachings, Christianity the Bible teaches that God has always been God and was never a man (Psalm 90:2
).* The Bible no where says he lives another star or that the Father has a body of flesh and bones -- which Christ contradicted in*John 4:24

Still not a cult. False teachings don't make you a cult. David Koresh had a cult.

Are these beliefs more or less outlandish than the beliefs of other religions (to include, but not limited to, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, etc.)?

Koresh had a specific cult. But a cult doesn't have to be a bunch of crazy people living in a compound.

Mormonism is a cult of Christianity since it is rooted in Christianity, but adds new teachings on top of it and modifies some of the core tenants of the religion.

To that same end, Christianity began as a Jewish cult, as did Islam.

Well said. If I paid attention to Mr. Jones, I could be offended by every one of his stunts as that is his intent. His only purpose is to keep himself in the limelight in order to force his perverted views upon everyone else. He chose his method simply because he knew a large segment of the population, especially a portion of the White (guilt ridden) population would see this as extraordinarily offensive. My view on the President is once he was elected, he became President of all of us, not just the Black citizens. So when an idiot in central Florida hangs the President in effigy it should either offend us or not offend us all equally. And we should all really choose to ignore him equally so he can go climb back under his rock and leave us all alone.

Hanging a black POTUS in effigy is even worse.

This statement relies entirely on the assumption that the hanger did this because of racial motivation.

Until I see evidence of that it is a standard, run of the mill hanging in effigy of a political figure.

You can argue that black people were lynched so this is racial but as has been pointed out over and over, political figures have been hung in effigy throughout history.

To claim this racially focused without any evidence is pure race baiting.
