Pastor Jones has new gimmick

What is George W. Bush's Severed Head Doing in Game of Thrones? - Forbes

So if they didn't intend to make any kind of statement with it is this still an insult? LG must say yes since "most rational people" may interpret it that way.

ROFL, you have got to be kidding.

You cannot compare the hatemonger Jones hanging Obama in effigy during a campaign to a split second screen shot where they had to use a Bush head for a scene in an HBO fantasy series about a make-believe middle ages drama.

That's just incredibly weak.

So, hanging a President in effigy is terrible; decapitating a former President in effigy is fine, so long as it is done for entertainment value?

For some reason, I do not see that using that head was necessary.

I'm saying that the intent of the GoT people was not to disparage so I'm not taking offense to their use.

Likewise, I've yet to see any racial INTENT in the Jones action so I'm not considering it racially offensive. It was clearly a political statement but to imply racism on it is the stretch.

Well, then you just have a factual disagreement with them that ought not be that tough to resolve, if it came down to that. They either had other heads to use or they didn't. Don't know what to tell you.

Put it this way. I am unaware of any history in this country of us beheading people and putting their heads on pikes. Certainly, we do not have a history of doing that to, say, Texans.

On the other hand, we have a terrible, sustained, and well understood history in this country of lynching blacks.

Honestly, you guys trying to liken these things to one another are just sounding like full on retards. There are so many obvious and important differences.

I mean, I wish that they had found some other heads, but its apples and oranges.

Lg,

More white men have been executed via electric chair than black men. If I put up a fake electric chair with a white dummy in it on my front lawn for Halloween, am I being bigoted against white people? If no, would it be racist if I were black?

honestly, if you're itching to be offended, it's just not very damned hard to gin up some butthurt. Not very hard at all. Accepting the squeamish douchebag mentality that has led to political correctness has become a bigger problem than the bigotry itself. It's unbelievable to me that the biggest crime in modern America is the idea that we can actually be exclusive about anything.

It's only racial if:

1) it was intended to be
2) you perceive it that way

We have zero evidence of 1) and a long history of 2) from you

leaving room for LG perception, my new shoes are racist because a) they have black in them or b)they have no black in them.

I am sure that they could have filmed the shot with one less head; maybe they could have added an extra head through CGI? It is not as if GoT does not heavily rely on CGI, anyhow.

If you were outraged at the gimmicks of Pastor Jones, I fail to see how you would not be outraged at the gimmicks of GoT.

Hang W in effigy = political statement
Hang BO in efficy = racial statement; political statement

Draw W as a chimp = political satire
Draw BO as a chimp = racially offensive cartoon

Criticize W = legit political analysis
Criticize BO = racially motivated

Am I doing it right?

wonder how the movie depicting W's assassination would be categorized? Instructional video?

Yep.

Didn't say that. What I am saying is that he's scum.

Not if its really a threat. And its disrespectful to any POTUS. I would be critical of anyone for doing it, against any POTUS, including Republican PsOTUS.

But, clearly, hanging a black man in effigy, yes, that has some extra degree of crappiness to it.

Are you suggesting that only black men have been hanged? Or simply a stereotypical statement hundreds of years in the making, strictly for the USA?

Better answered by those that drum up race more often but off the cuff it looks pretty close.

HBO apologizes for depiction of severed Bush head - CBS News

The producers of the show have apologized for their use of it and explained how it happened. It was also they who pointed it out in a commentary with the DVD release -- otherwise no one may ever have noticed. HBO has apologized and stopped shipments of the DVD until the scene can be edited out.

Still think that is analogous to what Jones did?

If you are referring to me I've already answered this several times; offense is legit if offense was intended. In this case it wasn't so as I stated earlier this is no big deal.

When someone shows me Jones intended some racial slight when hanging a politician in effigy who also happens to be 1/2 black then I'll concede it is racially offensive. Otherwise, there is no proof of intent to offend on these grounds so I don't consider it to be racially offensive.

I wouldn't expect him to come out and say he's doing it because Obama's black. I infer it from the thing, itself. And as I say I think given history any reasonable person would make the inference.

Fair enough; I infer from the act itself that the GoT producers were intending to make a statement that GWB should have been executed and had his head placed on a pike.

In that case, I infer from the depictions of Scott Walker with a Hitler mustache hanged in effigy, that those individuals actually believe that Scott Walker is the reincarnation of Adolph Hitler and is planning a second Holocaust, and thus needs to be executed in order to prevent genocide.

I would be critical of people for hanging Walker in effigy. You know, the irony is that doing crap like that just convinces people that your dislike is so irrational and personal that it doesn't have anything to do with policy disagreements.
