Pay to Vote

how about it you're ex-military with no job, 24yo and living on welfare?

also just getting a business license isn't hard

We are getting way off the subject. If anybody is advocating this they are off topic. It's not about limiting anybody's voice. They take themselves out of the equation if they don't value their own vote. Nobody has addressed why giving people a CHOICE is a bad idea.

They have to place a monetary value on their vote? So, freedom has an opportunity cost of $20?

Ridiculous. Voters already have to register and either show up to the polling site or apply for a mail-in ballot. I am not against making voters show a valid ID, either.

This suggestion is ridiculous, though, and effectively silences anyone who is living paycheck to paycheck.

the choice already exists- vote and try to make the changes that way or don't vote and accept the way things will be. Handing someone a $20 bill just so they can give it back in a week just seems useless

I am no advocate of the welfare crowd, but i do have a question. Do those include corporate entitlements like tax breaks/loopholes and agribusiness subsidies? Entitlements do not only go to the poor.
Let's just do away with all voting, set up a board of directors, hire a CEO, and change our name to The United Corporation of America.

You asked an honest question and I'm going to tell you the truth. We are in a war with other countries when it comes to employment. Most manufactoring companies are moving off seas because the wage rate is 100 to 1 or greater. I feel a compnay that is domiciled in the US and hires 99& of its workers in America needs a huge tax break to offset the cost of labor induced by the federal minimum wage. If not they will use employees otuside the country.

On the other hand, if a country is domiciled here and uses 99% of its working force in China ... f em. They need to be hit with a huge tarrif and a much higher tax bracket. We need to make it lucrative for business to hire HERE, whatever it takes. We need jobs so everyone can be working. Then a fair personal tax of 15% across the board is set up.

Freedom is a buck o' five.

we've actually had this conversation before PJ. AS business license does not mean you are a business. You have to file a tax return. Until then the FEDS don't even know you exist.

Ok, I will go over this one more time.

You can vote if:

You are 30 or older and have a job. If you were laid off in the last 6 months you have 6 months to find a job and can continue to vote in that time period. it is not fair to hold being laid off against a hard working person.

You are ex military

You own a home.

You own a business.

If you are none of these, you can buy in for 1000 dollars and 100 for each poll viting in.

How is this not fair? Everyone working 30 or older can vote! Period! If you dont meet any of the other reqs you can still buy in.

Tell me how this is not fair????????

Let's move the voting age up to 40. You good with that?

No it has a purpose. You are weeding out the people that don't value their vote. I mean if you think that is useless then I got nothing for ya.

Maybe you value every vote, even the votes of people that don't value their own.

Neocon totally hijacked the thread

How?

Because you threw out a number I could buy a BigMac with and I changed it to an actual number that matters.

All I did was change the amount and then stick around when you left the thread.

So, if I made one pitcher of lemonade, sold the lemonade by the glass, and then filed a tax return claiming myself as a business owner, I could effectively save $1000 and vote.

Good system.

That technically could be viewed as a false cover and could get you in real hot water.

The point you are missing is 20 bucks is chump change. A group could easily go hand out 5000 twenty dollar bills and it wouldnt be trackable. They could literally hand the 20 to themselves as they signed them up on thr street like they already do. 20 is too easy to fix.

Let's not pretend that you changed the amount to something innocuous.

You're also making the assumption that an average person on welfare values his vote and actually pays attention to what candidate will get them more money. Most people I know that draw welfare don't even vote to start with.
