Pearl to Iowa??

If the coach at SDSU is so great and has already led his team to an assumptive victory over the Volunteers of Tennessee (according to Charge Card Gottlieb and Friends), then why the hell is he not the at the center of the convo about these coaching vacancies?

I think we all know Bruce ain't leavin'. He married a Sevier County girl, and once the County gets it's hooks in you, all hope for departure is lost....

You mean there are other 25 win teams. I thought you had proven Pearl's teams are the only ones.

Yeah, that's what I said. Seriously, if you can't follow the conversation (or know how to use a question mark when asking something), then I'm not going to bother. Good luck.

Hes 217 years old and despite being handed a national title, still wore out his welcome in MI.

What? Follow the context? Why does that matter when strawmen better help your argument?

Yes you did.

Again, Green closes out UNC, he's still around with his results. Winning in March cures all the other trivial crap.

No, I didn't. Go back and re-read. Tell me where I said 25 wins is some magical accomplishment and trumps what happens in March. I may have been zealous in my point, but you are just making crap up.

Green closes out UNC and he's here maybe for another year or two. Of course, all the other stuff surrounding him was a factor as well. If Buzz had the record of Green, you think he would've been fired after 4 years? Nope.

I thought you were not down with the passive-aggressive stuff?

There's an issue of a dead auto dealer giving loans to Michigan players during the 90s that will keep him in mid-major land for the rest of his time. That, and he's old as dirt.

I'm making it up? You've told me 50 times you were making your SPECIFIC point. You introduced it by talking about our coach being irreplaceable. That was THE stat you used. GTFO.

The other only mattered when the coaching proved unable to win big games.

And, now you introduce another made up thing I said. I never said he was "irreplaceable". In fact, I specifically said there were coaches who could do what he did here. GO BACK AND READ WHAT I ACTUALLY SAID AND STOP MAKING UP MY QUOTES TO SUIT YOUR ARGUMENT.

Screw it, I found it for you. My first entry in this thread

At some point, people are going to have to get over the Green-Pearl analogies. Green lived off of the O'Neill's players and was fired before he sabotaged the program with recruiting players like Andy Ikeakor. He was a decent X and O guy, but had zero personality and his players quit on him because they hated him (There's not a chance in hell Pearl's kids lose to SW Missouri St. by 30) Pearl is on his fifth year and the trend appears to be on an upswing looking at recruiting, no Andy Ikeakors or even Brandon Crumps on the horizon.

Fact is, yes, Pearl is not the only guy who could take the Vols to the Sweet 16, obviously. Regardless, he's done a fantastic job here and I don't see the point in getting The Grass is Greener syndrome. It's like having a great girlfriend and then dumping her because you think you can date a supermodel.
Your specific quote was to avoid looking utterly stupid. Your previous posts tell full well that you believe we gave no prayer of getting one here. Peddle that crap to someone who doesn't know better. I know you're dying to find an angle to prop up your guy.

I didnt quote you at all. I know you pushed hard a bs point, though it wasn't a part of the debate, because it suits your argument. I reverted back to the argument that was already in play, tourney success, which doesn't help your guy at all, and you got all indignant about me recentering the debate. Pitiful.

So your other point was just a tangent about pyrrhic victories? Congrats, we have them.

Now, where is the 25 wins piece here? Oops, it was later when you were hailing it as an amazing accomplishment and hard to replace. In fact, it has dick to do with this post, which was fine until the stupid last sentence.

Post for us the genius piece about 25 wins Being irreplaceable. Oops.

Let me give you some advice, don't argue with BPV. I know this first-hand from the political forum.

BS, I put my actual statement above, not what you are trying to discern I am saying. And, the pitiful part is that you "recentered" the conversation because the point we were discussing wasn't to your liking. Plus, I specifically, specifically asked you why we would get rid of our most successful postseason coach-the area in which you are basing this whole concept of your argument upon-and you didn't even address it.

So, quit trying to put words and ideas in my mouth like "propping up my guy". In case you hadn't noticed, he's the coach of the team and I'm kind of wanting them to be successful. I'm not his agent or anything, interested in him keeping his job no matter how it affects the program. If I'm "propping up my guy", it's because I like what he's doing for Tennessee and, stunningly, I'd want to keep that coach around.

Well, I can't post the part about 25 wins being irreplaceable....because it doesn't exist.

Next.

Why? Does he just make up what you say in order to support his arguments and then pass them off as great points there, too?

The specific word was baloney (sic). Try that one. You didnt specifically use the word irreplaceable but it's how you tried to reframe the argument to the one about meaningless crap. Playing coy doesn't change that you put it out there.

You're the one bragging on your prowess about proving points and crap. Show me one instance of my doing it. Your hypocrisy is damn near funny, but not quite.

Alright, you want the original quote? Here you go:

I seriously doubt that we would have to fork over $3 million. Fans always overstate what their school can afford and I can't see Iowa, of all places, forcing us into a decision to make Pearl the second highest paid coach in America.

However, there is a sentiment on this board by a few that losing Pearl wouldn't be that big a deal, we'd just find one of the dozens of coaches who could do exactly the same thing Pearl has/could do at UT. It's baloney, coaches who average 25 wins a year don't grow on trees.
From here, you said 25 wins is a common accomplishment and I said those who average 25 aren't common, then went on from there.

But, as you can see from the original, I never said that 25 wins are the standard or make him irreplaceable. You've construed that yourself from a fairly flippant orginal remark (I might also add that postseason wins are included in the total, but, I digress.).
