Pelosi visit to Taiwan

My gut is this visit has already been negotiated between Biden admin and China. No way her dumbass would assume actual risk of a world war. Will be interesting to find out what we had to give up in order for her to have her moment of bravado.

There was never going to be a war over this. They were never going to shoot down a plane with her on it.

They are more measured than that.

North Korea does. Hell Russia said it still owns Alaska. Why does it matter that we visit Taiwan ?
You asked, I answered.

I'm not making a statement either way regarding the legitimacy of China's claims about Taiwan, or whether or not Pelosi should visit Taiwan. I'm just saying Pelosi visiting Taiwan is different than a Chinese politician visiting Cuba because the Chinese consider Taiwan to be theirs, and so an American politician visiting it is provocative. The United States makes no such claim regarding Cuba.

The correct analogy would be a prominent Chinese politician visiting an island off the coast of California that claimed it was independent from the United States, but the United States said it was part of the United States.

Does North Korea even claim to own the South Korean territory?
Only when fat boy throws a temper tantrum. My point was that we shouldn't care where China says we can go. I get why they don't want us there. We are doing the same thing to them as they are to us in Cuba and Latin America.

We care because they have a nearby military, nukes, and made threatening statements.

We should have recognized Taiwan as a separate country years ago and told the CCP to "suck it".

Too late now...should of treated them like the USSR and let their own populace insurrect. Nixon and Kissinger thought opening them up would show the value of democracy. Instead it had an opposite effect. So much for the FP DC savants

We've done that in practice for a very long time.

We have diplomatic relations/dialogue with them that exists independent of and parallel to our relationship with China, and have made statements over the years (most recently from Uncle Joe) that we would defend them if attacked by China. We do basically treat them as a separate country even though we've officially never stated it.

We are pretty reliant on Taiwan for a lot of electronic needs. We've got a real problem with having to go elsewhere for a lot of materials to meet our strategic needs. Our "leadership" sold us down the drain years ago, and haven't been bright enough or simply don't care enough to fix it. If China were to take over the electronics that Taiwan produces we might as well haul down our flag and put the CCP flag up in its place.

I think people in government and industry see China as a big market. Never gonna happen; they are corrupt to the core; they will always steal technology and make cheaper products themselves. China is a one way street, and we're getting royally screwed.

Does Pelosi make you all moist inside, EL?

I've heard people on here says that they are smarter than us. If they are so damn smart, why do they steal our technology? Personally I think we can F them over so quickly that they might not see it coming and I think we already have. I'm not the smartest tool in the shed, but even I know how to put a failsafe bug in every piece of software ever written.

China is a paper tiger.

Some of the "freak out" statements made in here sound like people have bought CCP propaganda hook, line, and sinker.

I wouldn't call them a paper tiger, they can still mass an Army the size we have never seen before and are not afraid to use human waves. They don't have the capability to deploy that Army very far but it's formidable in that area.

Ironically..they are doing it to us IMO.
Before software..the USM was using degraded components like even real hardware in aircraft and such. Cheap ass steel and such.

China-made counterfeit parts found in US military aircraft: Senate

The list goes on and on. CCP agents stealing Los Alamos warhead designs, etc.

This nation is awash in CCP agents and the USG just won't get serious.

What are they gonna do with that formidable army? I think we're very close to closing our ties to China and replacing their junk based economy with another low cost supplier.
