Penn St news only!

Interesting conversation with Franco Harris on Dr. Phil (I put myself out there for bashing for having it on Dr. Phil). Franco Harris had some great points about Joe in who he contacted (one was the one over the University Police that handles these matters). I think Joe is a very good man that honestly thought he was doing the right thing, in as Dr. Phil said, "going up the chain of command." I also think that Joe is being used as a scapegoat when there are many other people that should've stopped this before it even got to Joe and then after Joe reported it. What I am interested in is what exactly was Joe told. Was he told that Sandusky made McQueary feel uncomfortable for playing in the showers. Was he explicitly told sexual acts or sexual things were being done? I honestly didn't know that Joe not only called the AD but the VP that was over the University Police that is supposed to be informed of these matters.

Yes. I think the verbage "of sexual nature" was used in the grand jury report.

First, he already admitted what he was told by McQreary to the grand jury. Second, the fact that he contacted an additional Penn State administrator really means nothing to me. I think he could have figured out within the 10 years that nothing happened that no investigation was being done. Harris is just biased and has no sense of objectivity in this thing.

This is definitely a hot topic, and I can see both sides of this argument and really think there is no right or wrong side to take concerning Joe unless something damning comes out concerning him in a cover-up. There are just so many people that either witnessed or played an active role in covering it up that pretty much did nothing. Yet, a close to 80 year old man immediately schedule a meeting with the VP (who was over the University Police) and the AD to inform them of what he was told. If it was one of my kids Joe would be one of that last people I would blame.

I can definitely see your point. The thing I am interested in is was he lead to believe an investigation was being completed and nothing was found or was there simply nothing told to him.

I seriously, seriously doubt that Paterno can make any type of argument that he believed a serious investigation was going on while Sandusky was roaming around the premises on a daily basis for 10 years after Joe Pa "turned him in."

SOP in these investigations is that the employee is immediately placed on administrative leave and banned from the premises. Here, Sandusky was not banned from the premises; he was simply told to not bring any more young boys there. This whole thing wreaks of conspiracy and coverup.

I agree with this. I just would like to know what the AD or VP told Joe concerning this. Something had to be exchanged between the three during the weeks and months following. Also, I would honestly not put it past a man that is almost 80 to not realize a coverup or conspiracy. He has seemed to have lost it a long time ago, but that is another story. If I was the parent I would want to prosecute several people who witnessed and covered it up before I would blame the big name that is Joe Patterno, but I can see the view of wanting to blame Joe as even he wishes now that he had done more.

I believe he would have been 74 when this occurred. If he honestly didn't realize what was going on, he had no business coaching. I think this whole situation appears from the outside to be a situation where you have an iconic coach with more power and influence than the people that he reported this information to. My opinion is that when this investigation is completed that Joe Pa had a hand in covering this thing up and possibly directed the entire thing. It was his best friend concerning his football program in an athletic department where he is by far the most powerful person. My opinion is that Joe Paterno is right in the middle of it and his hiring a criminal defense lawyer further suggests that.

Possibly, but at the same time the cops said he had no role in the cover-up. That is what I'm wanting to see before I hammer the man. And trust me he had no business coaching the last 10 years. He was a figurehead that had every coaching decision made by all of his assistants. The HC of PSU was the same HC you saw Saturday. PSU just simply didn't have the guys to get him out of there because it would look awful, and he didn't know when to leave because that's his life.

Understandable

But make no mistake, Joe Paterno ran Penn State. Nothing was discussed without Joe in the know.

Many people have said this

I honestly do not think that they would let a guy that possibly is senile run Penn St. There is no doubt he used to, but he is simply a figurehead and has been for about 10 years.

I haven't seen anyone who is currently investigating this exonerate Joe Paterno. Also, assuming that is true, he wouldn't have just hired a criminal defense lawyer.

Ouch!!!

@SPORTSbyBROOKS: RT @McMurphyCBS: Boeheim to Syracuse paper: “I’m not Joe Paterno. Somebody didn’t come & tell me Bernie Fine did something & I’m hiding it."

Wonder why angel Joe has not come out and forcefully denied any knowledge? I guess his his high profile criminal attorney told him that it wouldn't be advisable.

Paterno is said to have a "treatable" form of lung cancer. It sounds to me like his doctors are giving him false hope so that they can sell him some toxic and expensive treatment. Most lung cancer is pretty aggressive, especially in 84 year olds. I would like someone who does not stand to profit from his treatment give an estimate of his prognosis.

"Lung cancer kills 1.4 million people around the world each year. In the United States, 221,130 new cases and 156,940 deaths are expected this year. The disease is typically diagnosed in older people. About 2 out of 3 people diagnosed with lung cancer are over age 65.

"There's a significant number of people who are diagnosed in their 70s and 80s," said chief medical officer Dr. Otis Brawley of the American Cancer Society. He has no involvement in Paterno's treatment.

"Generally when I hear that a person has a treatable form of lung cancer, it means the person may (or may not) very well benefit from surgery to remove a part of the lung," Brawley said.

While the surgery can be (is) invasive (and life threatening at 84 years of age), people who undergo the operation "can (sometimes) do well after that," he said."

It sounds like Paterno has a rough road ahead.
