Penn State scandal (merged)

My personal belief is that Paterno was in denial about the whole thing until this recent firestorm. Somebody posted a couple of times today that he "didn't know what was in" the Grand Jury report. Thats entirely possible so he may not have understood the breadth of this thing.

Not trying to minimize, I just think the old man was in a state of total denial and disbelief, regardless of what he was told or thought he was told by McQueary or anyone else along the way. Its not evident to me that he has a total grasp of reality.
While you may be right, my question is does he have any children. If he does, he has no excuses.

I see that being perfectly plausible.

Hence why I don't see him rotting in jail, but believe he and the rest of them all deserve to be fired.

The fact that you could even conceive this is extremely sad. State College isn't a damn deserted island.

That's why he never called real police either. He had been at Penn State over 60 years and wasn't familar with telephones. He was said to be shocked when he heard about the internet.

He's still coaching and joe is the hotter topic of ridicule than McQueary is. Blaming joe pa for this is a scapegoat to deter away from the real problem at hand and that is Sandusky and a coward of a witness. You griping about joe pa shows the same thing that you just accused me off. "not caring about the victims". I suggest you leave that crap at the door because it's stupid to even accuse anyone here of.

Whats sad is that there is a lot of people that only see the football side to this story because of who is involved.

I don't think the list of people that fell short in doing what should have been done is complete. Id say that will change over the next few weeks.

And if you don't understand why JoPa is a hotter topic, then I won't even think about responding to you again on this matter

That's exactly why I would've had to see the perpetrator stopped if I was a principle in this matter. Wouldn't have been able to live with myself.

You have to think that when that little kid saw his possible savior turn a 180 and head out the door, he knew nobody cared or would ever help him

It makes my heart hurt knowing that someone could have saved that child from a horrible situation

I'm not griping about JoPa. I just agree that the right thing was done when he was fired. The BOT firing McQueary at this point does not do the damage control that is needed to save this university.

May I also suggest you looking up whistle blower law

I believe whistle blower law relates to crimes against public interest no? Would that be scams and fraud cases? Not violent crimes?

I'm familiar with Grossman and both books, but haven't sat down and read them. I need to pick them up...the man is revered by most of my peers.

I wish private messaging was enabled on this forum. I'd like to pick your brain on a few things...

Thats possible. But being ignorant of the facts in the GJR should not lead him to respond with "I wish I had done more". He had no reason to make that comment.

Just a few cobwebs and the occasional burnt out light bulbs in there

That's been killing me this entire time. That kid must have been thinking "Thank God, this guy's here to help me". And then to see him turn and walk away...

These children have emotional scars that they will deal with for the rest of their lives. They will think about the abuse every day.

Me too, brother, me too. That's the real tragedy in this whole thing and it seems to be getting overlooked because of the players in the game. There are just too many children that are thrown away as trash and something needs to be done about it by people that really care for the young.

Thats going to be a substantial list I suspect if we are talking about people that knew. But then you have to pare the list down to the people who knew, from the people that were told to keep their mouth shut.

It applies when someone reports dishonest or illegal activity to someone in authority. That person is then protected from actions being taken against him for his reporting of the incident.

Don't doubt that happened. I would say some of those that have been fired may fit into the cover up crowd.

Listen. No one is agreeing with not calling police. My belief is this: mike McQueary saw it happen and should have called police. Not joe pa. Not the AD. McQueary. I think he should be in Joe Pas shoes right now. If Joe Pa gets fired then everyone should. Period.

You haven't read enough of the thread. No **** the the GA should have called the police or intervened. Not a person has disagreed. That doesn't mean joepa can make the same mistake.
