Penn State scandal (merged)

Sandusky was holding camps at PSU as late as 2009 and had access to the weight room last week. Amazing

Cowherd brought up a good point. What 55 year old DC just walks away?

This is from a Pennsylvania case.

It seems pretty clear that the DA could charge them with conspiracy if he wanted to. If it keeps going at this rate, he may have no choice. If this wasn't Joe Pa and was some elementary school principle, he would have been charged immediately.

PSU recruit Noah Spence on Twitter:

"Um, psu might be a no no for me ewwww"

Followed by:

"I kind of just dnt want to be a part of that"

Just imagine how the recruits' parents are reacting.

SIAP

I don't expect their recruiting class to look the same in February as it does now. I wonder how many players will transfer, too.

I agree, there is a pattern of cover up to protect the program. And Joe Pa knew about it, if he didn't, then it proves he has been out of it for so long he should have hung up the whistle 10 years ago.

Impossible for anyone involved with that football program to recruit at this point. The entire place should be wiped clean as is, because of this, but it won't take one step towards getting out after it's thousands of steps left to go back, until they all leave.

NY Times reporting Joe Pa's dismissal will be within days.

How would you guys react if this was UT? Would you drop your support for UT or would you continue to be a fan? I honestly don't know if I could, knowing the entire administration knew about this.

He should not be allowed to finish the season. Have security meet him at the door, pack your sh*t and leave old man!

it's so unconscionable that I can't even imagine what my reaction would be. As the father of a 10 year old, this both outrages and scares me.

I have no idea how I'd react. It's sickening to even think about.

If I were just a fan, I'd probably wash my hands of the whole thing. But I went to UTK; my dad went to UTK; my sister went to UTK; I met my wife at UTK. I probably care more about that campus than I do anywhere else on earth. It would be like a death in the family if we had a scandal like that.

Good gosh. I've heard about this, but admittedly have not followed it because it's been a little busy around these parts. Wow.

Should've left a long time ago, Paterno.

I would want every single person that had anything to do with the football program fired. And, I would want my university to turn over any and all evidence of anyone that had knowledge of the situation and summarily fire them and turn the evidence over to the authorities.

Then, I think Penn State should set up a fund for all victims and any potential victims that were molested as a result of their negligence and pay these people lots and lots of money.

If they completely cleaned house (Fire the AD, president, asst. coach, head coach, etc.), then I would still show support.

not until, as LawVol said, the victims are heavily compensated for the damage. It won't truly address their problems, but at least the university will have finally addressed the true victims to their wanton neglect.

It's unbelievable that last night the Penn State administration actually scheduled a press conference for an 84 year old to take the heat.

A press conference, I believe, in which he said he will not be talking about the issue that everyone wants to know about.

ETA: Now I see from Penn State's website that Paterno was prepared to talk about it.

I agree. I honestly just don't know what to say about this anymore. I feel so bad for those kids. The victims went forward because something had to be done. Those kids are such bigger humans than anyone in that football dept, to come forward and try to prevent this from happening to others. My heart goes out to them. I think this is gonna get bigger and more is gonna come out, unfortunately there are others, who are already coming forward now I believe.

Why? Paterno needed to field questions about it. He needed to answer publicly for his inaction. If you can't handle a press conference about a scandal in your program, you shouldn't be the head coach at a major football program. I'm not willing to cut him any slack at all for being 84 years old. That's what you get when you coach 20 years after most people retire.

The unbelievable part is that their gutless president was apparently ready to let Paterno stand out there and take the heat by himself.
