Penn State scandal (merged)

He obviously has no idea the ramifications of what has happened.

Or that this is not bigger than Penn State football which includes him. That video clip is hard to take knowing the rest of the situation.

It almost has a feel that he thinks they are trying to run him out of town because he has gone 4-8 the last 3 years or something.

Exactly. He's probably thinking "I did was I was suppose to do" not "I let a pedophile run rampant for ten years."

paterano and anyone else from that so called "school of higher learning" that associated with that sick SOB sandusky after knowing that he molested those poor defenseless boys should be charged accessary. did they introduce him at football banquets and other school function and boasted about his value to the team. did they tell recruits and their families about the high values and morals of football staff? what about that weak little freak that saw or watched sandusky in action? fire them all and send them to jail. GOD bless the victims.

Just got back from hanging outside beaver stadium for past hour and a half. There were TONS of media waiting out there. When they came outside to announce the PC was cancelled, people went ape-$h!+. I was standing close to Tom Rinaldi, he was furious. Media people immediately began to say "he's been fired...Don't leave town...there will be a PC later today/tomorrow."

It is a zoo up here. No words can describe how embarrassing this is to this community who prides themselves in moral conduct.

"Evil flourishes when good men do nothing"- read that on a sign that a lady was holding on campus today... so true

It will likely double again before all is said and done.

I'd say doubling or quadrupling may still not cover it.Considering most abusers dont just start all of the sudden in their 40's or 50's and he started the Second Mile Foundation in 1977 almost 35 years ago. The number of victims could run into the 100's.

Wow. I sure hope it's not that high. If so, there are more to blame than those at fault right now.

Thats what bothers me.
His foundation was created 1977.
They victims so far date back to 1994.

I don't think Sandusky was the only one to mess around with a kid. Someone else high has to have some dirt on them too, with the way they have protected him.

It is possible that either there were other pedophiles around then or now protecting each other. It is also possible other criminal activity may have happened not related to this that Sandusky knew about. Couldve also been that the recruiting and NCAA violations were so bad that Joe P. stayed quiet to keep Sandusky quiet and keep prying eyes like the NCAA out of Happy Valley.

I dont really think joe pa knew that this dude was a serial rapist. The stuff he did outside honestly the dude is old as **** and he has never been eloquent, so I dont hold that clip against him.

With all that being said he should have done more than he did, nobody will truly know what he did or didn't know, but clearly more could have and should have been done.

In 2007, PA extended the statute of limitations for crimes against minors. Any alleged victim, who was 18 years of age as of August 27th, 2002 has until their 50th birthday to come forward. Conceivably, there could be victims come forward long after Sandusky is dead and buried. This case could linger for years.

Riots on Penn State's campus. Not sure the students could be acting more idiotically.

Penn State fans revere JoePa on a higher level than Bama fans revere the Bear... If that's even possible. There are many PSU fans who are clearly of the mindset that he could do no wrong.

Trust me. It's not.

It's somewhere up in that ball park.

Just watching Anderson Cooper on the DVR, had some prosecutor on who specializes in abuse cases, and said that many universities actually have protocols in place for predation. There is a chain of command, apparently, and there is a designated person somewhere on the totem pole (higher than head football coach) to work with police on these sort of things. So I guess JoePa could have been in breach of some sort of contact if he went to the police.

Not alleviating him, but I think it does change the picture.

JoePa is personally responsible for any rapes that occured after he was notified that it was going on!

It's on the police also. It was reported to them back in 1998:realmad:

"Two months ago, state police at Rockview in Centre County began calling witnesses to a May 1998 report by Penn State University police detailing an earlier allegation of inappropriate contact against Sandusky by another boy. That boy, who was 12 at the time, alleged he and Sandusky were showering in the football building on Penn State’s campus when the incident took place.

The boy’s mother told The Patriot-News she was specifically instructed by state police at Rockview not to speak with a reporter. The boy told police in 1998 that Sandusky had showered with him in a locker room of the Lasch Building during a tour. The boy claimed Sandusky washed his body during the shower, sources said."

I disagree. It may seem like that now, but a big part of that is the Bear has been dead for almost 30 years.

It's obviously going to be different after the allegations, but Penn State fans have looked up to Paterno as a legend as a coach and a model of what is good in college football, and they certainly consider him to be one of the best, if not the best coach of all time. The Alabama fans I know look at Bryant like a God among men. And not just the ones that are old enough to remember him.

I don't think another Joe Paterno will happen in modern college football. No team will wait 25+ years between national titles with the same coach no matter how impressive they are otherwise. At least Bryant was only three years removed from his last when he retired.

Where I work, if there is suspicion of child abuse, of any kind, we report it to authorities. Yes, I would tell my supervisor (CEO), but the authorities would definitely be called.

This! There is a difference in policies not being adhered to and laws being broken.
