Nobody who read that indictment is going to be cheering Paterno or anyone in the admin at PSU. None of those fans have read it. It's pretty cut and dry. The man should have been in jail years ago. He's indefensible.
They would have been having a candlelight vigil for the victims instead of cheering Paterno if they had read it. The fans don't have all the information the indictment just came out. When everyone gets informed Paterno will be out.
The part that baffles me is the coach (grad assistant at the time) witnessing it and leaving. Calls his dad and the dad says 'get out of there and come home.' So, he just leaves the kid behind and doesn't report anything until the next day.
I just can't imagine a scenario where I walked upon a young boy getting raped in the shower, made eye contact with the rapist and the boy, and then turned around and walked away. I can't fathom it. Yell, scream, beat his ass, something...but do something for God's sakes. That child was probably praying he was there to help, and then he just turned his back and walked away.
It infuriates me.
Sure the kid was, but I doubt I or any of you can truly predict what we'd do in such a situation. It's unimaginable.
-The Associated Press is reporting that Penn State football coach Joe Paterno has decided to retire at end of the season.
The AP source says Paterno will announce his retirement later Wednesday.
I just don't see the point. Every game, cameras will be intently focused on a bespectacled reminder of what the Legend of Happy Valley has been reduced to. And then at the end of the last game... What? Do they carry him off the field to thunderous ovation?...
