Penn State scandal (merged)

Nobody who read that indictment is going to be cheering Paterno or anyone in the admin at PSU. None of those fans have read it. It's pretty cut and dry. The man should have been in jail years ago. He's indefensible.

They would have been having a candlelight vigil for the victims instead of cheering Paterno if they had read it. The fans don't have all the information the indictment just came out. When everyone gets informed Paterno will be out.

Not sure if you saw the article I posted, but the original DA went missing and his body has not been found. I think this is gonna be a mess and a lot is gonna come out of the woodwork from other victims to people in the know rolling on each other.

Ah, I did miss that. I'll go back and take a look.

Paterno already is out, it's just a matter of when. As for him going to jail, I don't buy it, he did enough to clear himself legally, plus he may have been contractually obligated to keep his mouth shut to everyone but the AD about the matter.

Retiring at end of year.

The part that baffles me is the coach (grad assistant at the time) witnessing it and leaving. Calls his dad and the dad says 'get out of there and come home.' So, he just leaves the kid behind and doesn't report anything until the next day.

I just can't imagine a scenario where I walked upon a young boy getting raped in the shower, made eye contact with the rapist and the boy, and then turned around and walked away. I can't fathom it. Yell, scream, beat his ass, something...but do something for God's sakes. That child was probably praying he was there to help, and then he just turned his back and walked away.

It infuriates me.

Sure the kid was, but I doubt I or any of you can truly predict what we'd do in such a situation. It's unimaginable.

If I saw that, I can guarantee that one of us is not walking out of the locker room.

at the very least you remove the child from the situation. What you do to the man may be up for discussion but the child has to be helped. If arrested for anything after that I would request a jury trial and enjoy my freedom following it

This.

-The Associated Press is reporting that Penn State football coach Joe Paterno has decided to retire at end of the season.

The AP source says Paterno will announce his retirement later Wednesday.

I just don't see the point. Every game, cameras will be intently focused on a bespectacled reminder of what the Legend of Happy Valley has been reduced to. And then at the end of the last game... What? Do they carry him off the field to thunderous ovation?...

On the one hand I agree with you, but on the other I am confident many people would at least secure the kid's safety.

The guy is obviously narcissistic. He still can't fathom what he's done wrong.

I would have called the cops right then, respected guy or not that act isn't respected. He also might have been the recepient of a large blunt object to the side of the head. I would have told him the cops were on the way and if he didn't stop then, then me or him is going to get hurt. All of it was handled wrong. No way i'm leaving that kid in there in that way.
